England World Cup Squad

Especially when the replacements are so uninspiring,
Borthwick's not gonna roll the dice, he's just gonna pick the players he discarded from earlier training camps

In fairness that's what he said he'd do and it makes perfect sense.

I said before that I hate the whole warm ups / locked in camp for years run up to the RWC. But this is just awful.

Performances have stunk so confidence wise we have to be in a worse place than ever. We've lost 2 (probable starters) from the whole tournament with at least another 4 (3 likely starters) struggling to some degree or another. Two more starters will miss at least the key group game through suspensions. And there's still another physical game to go before the whole damn thing kicks off.

One side of the draw you have in form exciting teams in games i am excited for. Very much like the match tonight. It's the Foreman vs Ali of rugby.

On the other side of the draw it's gonna be like watching hobo's being paid to fight each other. Yet I'll still be watching out of loyalty and morbid curiosity

Sinfield: We were a tight group already, but how you handle those setbacks and those obstacles are really important to how the team moves forward and how the team functions.
After each one of those blows - if you call them that - we've got back up and gone again. We'll continue to do that. These obstacles will continue to bring us closer together. In another group, in one that wasn't as experienced or as hungry to do well, it might have been really, really challenging for us.

He does realise that continuing to lose (admittedly scraping one win) isn't really 'getting back up and going again.' We don't really want to be 'continuing to do that,' we'd rather do something different. Playing badly and generally losing might have been challenging for lesser groups, but this 'experienced and hungry' group just take it in their stride. Perhaps the shouldn't.

I know it's only press conference ******, but if it's indicative of the mindset in camp, then anyone expecting a sudden change in England's fortunes is going to be sadly disappointed.

Marchant is more of a bolter i think. I bit like Lewis Ludlam. They are probably not in either Eddies or Borthwicks plans but have played there way onto the plane. Even on here i doubt many would have them as first choice when i think they should be currently.

I don't think anyone can pick Englands best centre pairing without getting 101 different combinations and that's the same issue Eddie and Borthwick have.

What would be Englands best centre pairing including those not in the squad? I think everyone has a different view.
OK, but who has been better than Marchant over the past few seasons domestically? Slade kept the shirt despite being mostly mediocre for Exeter and England. Marchant could/should have had another 10-15 caps IMO.

On our best possible centre pairing, I'd probably have said Kelly and Marchant but that's purely on potential.

Out of the players that are going to be leaving the Premiership, Marchant is the biggest loss. He should be a mainstay IMO. Arundell leaving is a bummer too, but Marchant will be a bigger blow

I aint bummed about either tbh. Marchant great player should have been a regular, but pushing into his late 20's now and we do have some guys coming through there.

Arundell, is just meh, the kid has elite potential, but its a reputtion based on highlights not what he consistently offers, and doesnt really have a defined role to be a proper contributor right now. Guys like radwan, murley, roebuck, freeman etc... might not have the highlights of aurndell but they are way more reliable and rounded and ready to go now.

Unfortunately ive never seen a more disjointed England team. They look tired, out of sync and more importantly useless at one on one tackling. Boy do I miss Eddie Jones. The way this is going after the summer nations this year is going to prove further humiliating for England at the world cup!

The clips of Marler's tackle don't look great,
If/when he gets banned who do we even call up?
VRR? Obano?
Considering we have to officially submit our squad on Monday, what happens if we submit the squad and he then gets cited/banned? Can we swap him?

Good job Rodd is battle hardened with his 12mins of rugby since June

Don't know for sure but surely you can replace front rowers? Otherwise we'd be 1 warmup injury to Genge or Rodd away from being unable to field a match day 23.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking
Wonder if there's any rule, like with uncontested scrums, where because it's foul play not an injury you have to lose another player to bring in a replacement or something (once you get down to the point where you can't field 2 LH/HK/TH, that is)

Radwan has more highlights reels than Arundell...Trust me I'm a falcon. We don't have much to shout about...but Radwan is one

Oh yeah, radwan is electric, I mean for the more casual rugby fan, bet everyone has seen those 2 arundell ones, radwan who puts up countless worldies a season unfortunately I could not say the same.

Poorly worded on my part, was trying to shorten the post by putting all the guys who are actually good players in a bucket compared to arundell who is still very raw.

The BBC match report now referring to Smith as a utility back

Watching Ireland vs Samoa and I'm revising my prediction and think a group exit is on the cards
Think I said when I replied earlier, mapusua has got their forwards playing some good stuff since he took over, and if their imports in leolifano and sapoaga hit its a real dangerous game.

Fiji and samoa got their coching choices spot on, both out of the lancaster play book of guys from their player development ranks.
