England World Cup Squad

Tbh he was never actually that level imo - decent player but not England quality
He was pretty good for Wasps for the most part, any time him and Smith went head to head Smith came out well on top, if Smith isn’t what the coaches are after then there is no hope for Jacob.

Sopoaga's not amazing tbf - wasn't Umaga ahead of him at Wasps and he shifted to 15?

36 is pretty old for a pro rugby player too, especially a back
Never looked great at 10, however I think he was a bit blindsided by the difference in physicality of the prem, he was also supposedly the savour and would basically play in a similar way to Cips who was on his way out.

Scrum halves
England need to find two new No 9s imminently. While Ben Youngs has not officially retired from Test duty, he is now 34 and has not found a way into the team during this World Cup. He and the 36-year-old Danny Care — who has only a year left on his Harlequins contract — have been incredible servants for England but now must be moved on.

The good news for Borthwick is that he has ready-made options in the form of Jack van Poortvliet, who would have made this World Cup had he not injured his ankle, and Raffi Quirke of Sale. Quirke needs to get back into the starting line-up at his club, having fallen behind Gus Warr last year, and play with a consistent fly half, but can grow into a quick, dynamic replacement for Care, with Van Poortvliet more in the Youngs mould. Those two plus Alex Mitchell, the Northampton Saints scrum half who went from outside the squad to starting, should make a fine trio for many years.
This is peak comedy and proof that name brand is all that matters in these pieces. Gus warr is outplaying quirke, Gus Warr fits the way steve wants to play, Lets pick Quirke anyway because he was in a squad a while back and has been hyped.

Also one of Borthwick's aims was to reconnect with fans and rebuild support for England. It's obvious where I stand, but do you think the majority of fans will have been won over by England's world cup performance?

George also implying he isn't either as he says Theo Dan will keep him on his toes for the next couple of years, but that could just be at Saracens.

Jamie George is only 33 tbf, even if making the next world cup would be a stretch that's still young to retire, he's got another couple of years in him easy

I'd say the same about Marler if he hadn't openly spoken about retirement multiple times in the past

It is important that there is a gradual shifting of the guard, so some need to stay for next couple of years.

Interesting to hear Sean Fitzpatrick say it takes a cycle to build a world Cup winning team.....but NZ have potential done it in 12 months.

Yet seemingly England fans Expect Borthwick to do it in 4 months :D
