England World Cup Squad

George Martin to be the key for England for some time

Watching SA smash NZ and what he did to their big guys.

Also clear that his power in the scrum is really needed
Yeah I agree. He was very quiet all tournament bit really stood up in the SF and showed what he can bring

It is important that there is a gradual shifting of the guard, so some need to stay for next couple of years.
6N
15 Steward
14 Freeman
13 Slade
12 Lawrence
11 Murley
10 Farrell
9 Mitchell

1 Rodd
2 George
3 ???
4 Itoje
5 Martin
6 Underhill
7 Curry
8 Earl
Personally prefer 6 Curry 7 Earl 8 insert real 8 here (Mercer my choice). Underhill in the squad/bench.

Also not convinced we dont see Freeman as the 13 for the six nations. Playing there for saints and a big ol lump that borthwick will like. Not sure out backline could handle having 3 players with speed in it though.

Interesting to hear Sean Fitzpatrick say it takes a cycle to build a world Cup winning team.....but NZ have potential done it in 12 months.

Yet seemingly England fans Expect Borthwick to do it in 4 months :D
Except he didn't have 4 months. He had 9/10, not far of the 12 NZ remade themselves in. I think world cup has been fine better than my expectations going in but about par for the draw we had with 1 actualy good performance, but we dont need to make things up just because you like borthwick.

I never expected England to win the WC and with the draw I never thought how far they got would reflect on them either. For me it was about performances. Something to give me hope and I wasn't left with much.

Gonna struggle for mitigation on that one as well. And the bunker psychology wise will want to make that red to even jp the contest.

And I guess that shows how people view things differently. Next 6 months will tell alot.

Well I didn't count the 6n as rhat was him effectively assessing the squad and realising how bad they were after Jones.

Making things up? Really? Lol no bother.

Saying 4 months when he was in the job for 10 months is making things up.

Why would you discredit the 6 nations? Because it was extremely poor? It was his squad, it counts for building towards the world cup. Cant just pick and choose because the world cup went well results wise but the 6 nations was dire.

The 6n was a free hit out...whether you like it or not. I'm not picking abd choosing. He picked the squad but predominantly Jones...and they were a shambles. Hss had to put alot in place to fix

Anyway..the borefsst I'm currently watching suggests we're not rhat bad.

If nothing else, one good find (well two really, George Martin) out of this RWC has been the emergence of Theo Dan.
By the end of the 6 nations I'd expect to see him as #1 hooker with his potential.

Hmmm, he'd need to drastically improve his setpiece for that
George will be first choice for the coming season and if LCD comes back he should be ahead of Dan too
I think Langdon will come into contention at some point too, as he's started the season well for saints

Borthwick is too much of a lineout nause to trust a hooker with such poor darts

Not how it works, and you are picking and choosing if you omit half of his reign. What is the next excuse if the attack remains as turgid come six nations? Changing of guard so cant expect much?

Most of the world cup squad was Jones squad as well, and the ones that werent were predominately guys he picked for that dire six nations. May and mitchell werent even in his squad to begin with. So not really a free hit if the squad didnt change.

Like I said, ommiting half of his reign because it doesnt fit your narrative is an odd one.

Dan to me feels like someone you want on the bench to come on late for his carrying while letting him develop in the set piece. Not sure you get much out of rocking with George and LCD.

Curtis langdon is something I could really get behind, very good player.

Tyson Fury wearing an England shirt for his walk out is a bit weird,
He friends with any of the players or anything?
Wouldn't have thought he'd wear anything branded unless they were paying him but umbro/the RFU aren't gonna do that

My worry with Mercer AND Earl is that they are both similar styles, and on last nights performance you need a 'dog' to do all the hard work, hence my selection of Underhill. Probably prefer Mercer for line out, so
6 Underhill
7 Curry
8 Mercer
Would have a look of Hill, Back, Dayglo to it.

We need Freeman to do what Tulea was doing last night.
The extra 'puncher' in the backline is important, unless you have enough in the pack like SA do.

He needs to really improve his tackling. Saw him get brushed off a few times. And he needs to improve his set piece. Think he will be behind a couple of others for a couple of years.
