England vs Australia (13/11)

When hoskins is subbed in because there are too many scrum penalties or slipper is sin binned, will the scrum penalties continue or can hoskins hold his own against genge and co?

He's decent prem standard - not really international calliber realistically, but by that stage of the game he'll be up against a 21yr old with just over a season of senior rugby under his belt so should be a good battle

True. Although Genge often plays for longer than a lot of props.

He does have a lot of stamina. Even at 70mins he rarely looks like he's really dropping off and the sub is as much about protecting from himself - would definitely play 80 if he wasn't hooked and could dictate it himself. Much like your avatar in the Semi/Final and that didn't cause an issue

Havent you lads been playing much better, and beaten the Boks twice this year? Whats with all the negativity?
We have about 5 blokes left from the side that beat the Bokkies and we are starting the game with a LH at TH and a rookie TH on the bench.

Factoring in our record against England and the fact that we are at Twickers... literally no chance at all.

Beale at fullback for **** sake?

I'd be more annoyed about JOC at 10 tbh.

He plays sooooo deep and is wasted there as well as damaging the backline as a whole imo.

We're doing our best to throw it in the backs. Kick it to Manu, get somone to front up quick to Farrell for a classic "tackle" of his and target Slade's channel otherwise and you might be surprised

Don't get me wrong - Aus are slowely turning the ship around both on and off the field (very slowely - takes a while to undo 20 years of maladministration). But this game won't demonstrate that.

I wonder when the last time we toured without a win was?

I do feel for ya, it's disappointing not to be pretty scared about Aus coming to town. You seem to be on the right track in a larger sense though. Hopefully you find some replacements in the pack and a Korobiete in waiting

so I agree with many of the other England fans on here that the Manu on the big thing is just madness, but it would seem some the media today have a different view. Apparently this is Jones using his insider Aussie knowledge to concoct the perfect team for this game. Could this be tactical genius that we mere mortals just can't comprehend? Maybe. But frankly we all know what Manu can do, and Faz for that matter (kick a lot for the most part). If Jones is serious about rolling out a New England for the next WC then surely we should be blooding our young talent against some serious opposition? Give them a chance to shine and play to their strengths, rather than shoehorn their talent into a prosaic England attacking game that doesn't suite them.
Marcus Smith seems to be a potential once in a generation talent, born to play the game, so let the lad play, and play alongside others who compliment him, it's not like we are wanting for players in that regard.
I believe Jones wants to win, but o often suspect that he only wants a victory that he he can say he crafted himself, choosing the except potential defeat rather than let go of the reigns a little and let others really shine.

Sanderson quoted in the Times as saying that Manu is good under the high ball. Wonder what his evidence is for that?

Times also reporting that the Wallabies are expecting him to defend mostly in midfield with Slade on the wing to counter the ariel threat.

Numbers on shirts do matter.

I mean he's his coach and before that was an opposition coach, he's seen significantly more of him, and done more analysis on him, than anyone on here

For me it's simple. If Slade is going to defend on the wing, then he should be on the wing. If we're defending and get turnover ball then he's out of position for attack, same as if we are attacking and the Wallabies turn the ball over, he's out of position too. I know Jones seems to have this idea that players are interchangeable, but they are not. Look at Daly. He's never been secure under the high ball. Steward though who is a specialist 15 does look comfortable. If Daly was in midfield and needed to cover Steward, then fine he can do the job, but he can't do it as well and shouldn't be put there for a whole game if there is someone better. I'm not convinced in the slightest that you can have a player who is completely all round and play in the backline anywhere at the standard needed for international rugby. Some can cover multiple positions, but there will always be a drop off when they do.

2 players in the same position is unlucky…. But would be shocked if no one else has it
