Part of me would be unsurprised if Eddie is just running round infecting people with Covid / false positives so that he can announce the team 90 min pre game.

He's always whinged about having to do it days before so this would be a perfect oppertunity lol

Can tell were playing Aus and not Tonga so aren't playing shenanigans this week.

Damn, my theory is scuppered.

If that test was a day old, then I would fully expect at least one more in the squad.

Am i right in thinking that an infection won't show on a test immediately?

Hmm - our hopes of scrum dominance are basically gone now … I rate Rodd but he's definitely not a dominant scrummager.

What does that say to Davison aswell....in the squad all the time then leaped over by a newbie in the squad???

Not sure if it's changed now, but I remember them originally saying it can take up to 10 days to build up testable levels - that's why you had to isolate that long if you got pinged
Not sure how that compares with LFT vs PCR, though

Press release says Davison is in the squad as a tighthead who is now being asked to cover loosehead - guessing he's not been training at 1, whereas Rodd trained the summer with England at loosehead, and the past week exclusively there too

Ah right...so Trev is actually in as a TH. Ok. Well id back him at LH aswell...no worries from me.

As far as I'm aware, the LFT tests for antibodies so it obviously takes time to build up a detectable amount.
The PCR tests for viral RNA which is essentially the virus itself so will manifest before antibodies or symptoms, also the PCR amplifies the RNA so not much is needed to trigger a positive.

Added to which, the 10 days thing is how long after infection you're likely to be contagious for, and THAT'S why you isolate for 10 days.
I think there's been some confusion here over which time frame represents what, I'm pretty sure the delay in building up enough antibodies to be detected was 48-60 hours; hence that's as far back as you go with contact tracing.

There's no point in isolating for as long as it takes to return a positive test AFTER you've tested positive - because that's just arse about face (mind you, with the way we've handled everything else...)
There's no point in only tracing back contacts for 2 days if you've been infectious for 7.

I mean he's his coach and before that was an opposition coach, he's seen significantly more of him, and done more analysis on him, than anyone on here
Very true. But my guess is that's more training than match based. I guess we'll find out more tomorrow.

Genge is a huge loss for this pack, id say Genge was the most dominant carrier in that pack, for all Sink's bulk he gets stopped alot easier. I can see us bringing Dombrandt on quite early to give us abit more go forward in the pack.

With all the talent of Itoje Hill Lawes Underhill Curry which of them is considered a strong carrier? Id say non would really break defences.

All that said im happy for Rodd as a young lad who played well getting a shot but given the team Mako would have been a better shout IMO. Just to add that strong carrying.

More which are consistently strong carriers. With the exception of Hill, who I have never seen make a strong carry, the rest have torn defences apart at times. I'd argue one of the big problems isn't so much the carriers but the fact the service is often poor so they don't get any speed up. Youngs in particular is atrocious at passing a ball at a running player so they have to stop to catch his pass and then get clattered. I distinctly remember one game where someone ran a great line right at Youngs, who was doing his usual of just holding everything up at the back of the ruck, and Youngs just simply refused to pass to him, instead passing to someone static.

The wallabies playing a loosehead at tighthead and having to bring a rando in that was playing in England for cover is now not looking like the handicap it could have been.

I hope england doesn't spread covid to the wallabies, coaching staff in particular (because they are older)

TBF to Hill he's usually too busy scoring tries to waste his time on such mundanities. Averaging a try every 4 games and finishing just 1 short of the top try scorer in 19/20 with 10. The man can't be expected to do everything.
