England v Wales

All this talk of heart and pride from the welsh fans, but if you take away the 3 mins in the match where they scored 14 points, they had an horrendous game - their forwards were out muscled for large parts, their line-out collapsed, their backline were undynamic for the most part and included a generally-lethargic henson. Wales took their chances well - granted, but I'm afraid this win has blinded many to their failings. Wales played 10-15 mins of good (-ish) rugby where as England played 55 mins of the best rugby we've seen from them in long time. I'm happier being an English fan at the moment. I reckon France, Ireland and even the Scots will want to play Wales over England after what they saw yesterday.

On a side note, a great quote from one of the commentator's after Vainikolo's chase saw him fly over Mark Jones (apologies if its not quite accurate) -

"Mark Jones had to choose between ducking or decapitation, I think he chose well"

hahaha if you take away the CRUCIAL 14 points that were scored then England would have won.
The Welsh forwards were out muscled... oh wait apart from during the crucial last half hour when the English started to get knacked and too weak to continue out muscling anyone.

Actually, one thing the Welsh have been pretty quiet on has been all the confident sneering before the game that Vainikolo would wilt under a sustained barrage of high balls.

I don't think Mark Jones wants to challenge the Volcano for a high ball for a verrrry long time now

Vainikolo's only problem was probably his clueless nature in defence but that is more to him only just starting in Union. On the areas where we thought he'd come up short, he did pretty damn well, lending more evidence to the fact that Gatland's statement was more "stupid" than "Fergie" or whatever the hell is was meant to be.

I think rather than Mark Jones running rings around Vainikolo the battle on the wing was definitely a bitter draw with Vainikolo pwning Mark Jones any time they went into contact but Mark Jones at least doing much more to help his team defend. The fact that a guy who has only played barely 11 games of Rugby got up to speed with a seasoned and wily Welsh veteran so quickly is incredible and I think it surprised the hell out of poor Jones.

Also...on iPlayer, 27 minutes and 36 seconds in, you can see me waving! Wheee!

Did Vainikolo actually have any attacking chances apart from the Flood try? I can't recall him making any attacking runs, and he seemed to be reduced to playing around the fringes doing dirty work. Narraway and Flood were the only bright spots for a very poor England.

All of Wales were average, but by the standards of the game as a whole, Henson and Hook were great.

Talk about clutching at straws, he as knackered after 30 mins and could not follow on his chip and chase and what was that when he just left the ball on the floor and stared at it? Impact player I reckon.

I really agree with him... I'm glad to see Henson again, he's one of my favourite nr.12

Suddenly Englands trip to Rome next week looks a whole lot more difficult.Lose there and there is a slight chance that they could be on for the wooden spoon. :bleh!:

Nah, the only one clutching at straws was Mark Jones trying to work out how to contain the big guy! :bleh!:

haha, its called ducking! it did'nt look like it was even going to be a tackle, good job he didn't get it because maybe he would have been binned, getting Tongans in to cheat for you, well well well :p

Had Jones remained standing, Vainikolo actually would have cut him in half. It looked like he went in high when you saw it at speed first time round, but on the replay you can clearly seeing him dropping his hips and bringing his shoulders right down.

Would probably have hurt whatever.

Awww diddums! Was the wittle Mwark Jwones afwaid of mussing his wittle hair doo? I hope Gatland gave him a good mug of horlicks and tucked him up in bed after the game, poor little lad :p

Making excuses for Mark Jones now?

No need to make excuses, ducking was a good tactic, i would have done it and felt good about it.
I don't think either side is in a position to talk about hair styles...
When Les came on, for a minute i was like
"What? How long has Bo Derek played Rugby for England?"

No Capin', its okay, no need to excuse poor old Mark. I think Shaun Edwards gave him a reassuring hug afterwards and made sure he got to bed at his allotted bedtime, snug under his Take That duvet with a nice mug of cocoa and a bedtime story called "the little winger who could!"

Looked like Jones slipped rather than ducked.

And what was more funny was at some ruck (don't really remember the details but..), one of the Welsh players had his foot stuck cause an English player was holding onto it, and whilst trying to pull it out got completely nailed. That got a few laughs when I was watching it I tell you.

Yep more cheating, how proud one must be, and they still lost.
Anyone remind me what the score was?
