England squad for SA tour

Backrow should be 6. fearns 7. kvesic 8. Morgan. Train them up now get them international experience and by 2015 we will have a amazing backrow

How much of an 'openside' is Wood compared to the others? Are his skills at 7 superior to those of Haskell, Fearns etc. ?

Was voted players-player of the season last year playing exclusively at openside. So naturally the ****wit England coaches called him a blindside.

It's a shame, as he's far more effective at 6/8 than 7. There's still time for him to learn his trade at 7 and become a good player there, but he's already a great blindside/8.
tbf on him though, the competition is so great in each position in the English backrow, with just about every player who is a serious contender for each position young enough to be around for years to come, that the only way he's going to break into the team is through being really versatile. (He should keep at 8 though, because if Morgan picks up an injury or goes through bad form, 8 gets blown wide open.)

8 should still be wide open. Morgan had a good start, but he was nowhere near as impressive enough to put the argument to bed. It has been though, basically because there's no one else. Young English 8s simply aren't getting enough game time in the position.

Note: I am expecting a very high level of performance here, possibly unfairly so, but the standard on what is required to be a nailed on international player should not slide.

Tuilagi has been cited for a tip tackle in the final.
If found guilty, and is given the minimum (3 weeks, which would be likely as he doesn't have a clean record) he'd miss most of the tour, so I imagine wouldn't go at all.

If he does miss it, I wonder who would play 13? Joseph went well enough there vs Baabaas, but Lowe had a great game in the final.

Then again, it'd probably be 12. Farrell 13. Barritt.

The backrow is going to be interesting for the first test:
Robshaw is a cert, as he's captain, but then 6 and 8 are wide open.
Dowson had a very good game vs Baabaas (I know it's hard to judge international form vs Barbarians but his individual errors were way down compared to the Six Nations) so he'll be in the mix for either spot, and then Tom Johnson had a great game as well - so maybe we'll see him involved (maybe Dowson 6 and Johnson bench?).
And then we also have Haskell coming back in to the mix, who is the best 7 in the side (despite being a 6) and has the most experience of playing the Springbok players out of the lot of them - can play well in any backrow position as well, so maybe he'll pip Johnson to the bench spot? But then he's missed the training camps so he could be moved down a few notches.

I think it will be;

1.Corbs - i don't think marler will start unless corbs in injured
2. Hartley - Spot on
3. Cole - Not another great option
4. Botha - Spot on
5. Parling - Spot on
6. Johnson/ Dowson - Really not sure on this, thought johnson sis really well and i think his physicalness will be needed against the bocs, i think dowson is a bit light weight maybe???
7.Robshaw - Spot on
8.Mogan - I'm 90% sure he will start, but if he is struggling then dowson will come in
9. Dickson - Wil be pushed hard by care but care will be the impact player
10. Farrell - Better than hodgson and floods form is a ?
11. Wade/ Strettle - Not sure about this, wade played well but his tackling was not international standard, will probably be a mid weak player
12. barrett - Spot on
13. Joseph- With Tuilagi cited and probably going to miss the tour i can't see them doing the farrell/barrett 12 13 thing again, i'm hoping josephs amazing 20mins will see him there
14. Ashton - back on form
15. Foden - Steady but not amazing at the moment

16. Mears - Good back up
17. Marler - I think stevens will just be kept for th cover if cole gets injured, i hoping marler will come on and corbs move to TH if needed
18. Parlmer - Good back up
19. Haskell/ Johnson/Dowson - No idea what SL will be thinking with this, maybe since haskell has missed the training he will start mid week and then maybe move into the starting 15????
20. Care - Impact player
21. Flood - pushing for a starting berth but will have to see
22. Brown? who else?

So its really down to who will play 6 and who will play 11 & 13???? Not many positions up for debate which is good! Can't think of another back sub though??? Alex Goode maybe? I didn't rate him after the ba bas game, certainly not better than brown

Hi Guys,

Not up to date with the finer details of England rugby, what is it that you want out of this tour?
All out victory; establishing a new coach; new player base etc..

Certainly form a South African perspective this is a difficult one to judge.
New coach in Heyneke Meyer, the poor bloke has one week to make his team gel for the first test, severely hampered by injuries from a 12-13 weeks of Super 15 rugby but with a huge pool of young talent
If the Springboks are to win the first test it will, not be because of the way the new coach does things, it will be one off a will to win, arguably down to individual brilliance or just a better brand of rugby.
But it all could back fire just as easily; for this the first test.

For the rest of the remaining two tests, you might just be surprised now that South Africa have a "experienced and respected coach" and not a political pawn; the deserved player will be selected by an astute rugby mind.
May this be an epic tour

I'd like us to get (at least :p) one win, and to build on from the Six Nations.
Good performances are the name of the game - If we can play well for the full 80minutes each game, I don't really care about the results at this stage.
There's a lot of young and/or inexperienced players in the side, and playing against the Boks in SA will be unlike anything they've experienced - if they can perform well in those conditions/not let it phase them then I'll be happy.

Prop Matt Stevens has pulled out of England's tour to South Africa with a shoulder injury. His place will go to Rupert Harden of Gloucester.

Not bad!
Shame for Stevens as he had a decent game vs Baabaas but Doran-Jones should (rightfully) make the test squad now.
Harden is a good player as well. Shame Henry Thomas got injured in the final round of the Prem as he should be going out there, but good to see Harden getting a shot.

Any news on the extent of the injury to Flood, reading in todays rag he will not be flying out tomo? Still no news on a potential Manu Tuialgi ban either.

Blackett or Probyn to judge just before a test match?

No Case to answer, dismissed...

I'm excited to see the guys playing, looks like a lot of new faces in the England team. Hopefully there will be some new faces in our team as well...

I am shocked. Shocked and appalled.

Still, I'd rather England have Tualagi at 13 than Barritt. I'd quite like to see them not humiliate themselves against the South Africans.

That's that then!
To be fair, it was always going to play out that way as he's a) a Tiger and b) a current international.
At least it means Barritt gets to play at 12 again.
Would still like to see Lowe or Joseph get a crack at the test side though.
