So apparently Banahan has been having chats with Lancaster about England selection.

(not world cup related, but cba with a new thread)

Chats about Banahan's possible selection? Or chats about Banahan's opinion on Lancaster's selection?

Only 28, could potentially make it to the next world cup even.

Lancaster seems to like people having more than 1 seasons consistently good form before selecting them, not a bad idea, second season syndrome can hit a lot of people and it's a good way of showing they can perform at a high level for more than just odd games. Banahan has just had 1 very good season, let's see if he can keep it up.

Is he even in the squad? So the chatting does... what exactly?
EDIT: Ah, post RWC selection. That makes... more sense.

Why?

Strong runner, good try scoring record, good defender, fantastic in the air, good understanding with Ford, on top form over the last season.

I mean, I am pretty sceptical as he's failed to make the step up to international level before, but it's not a completely doolally idea. If he'd had the season he had last year and was 23 (and hadn't failed before ... ) there'd be a lot more people screaming for him in the squad.

He was in better form for Bath (and that's saying something considering his form this season) when he got his caps 4 years ago, and look how well that turned out*.
He's also a surprisingly weak runner considering his size/weight.
Just don't think he's an international winger, and would rather we spent the time developing....anyone else, really.

*Spoiler: He was terrible.

Maybe Lancaster has been talking to Johnno and sees Banahan as the answer to our centre troubles :p

Why don't we just pull names out of a hat for each position? Infact I must admit I'm tempted to make a little spreadsheet to produce a completely random team for ****s and giggles.

I'll agree with you it's not completely doolally if you agree with me that it's 95pc doolally. His previous failure is a pretty big caveat after all and it's not like we're short of potential.

Still, if he continues in strong form, well maybe he's improved athletically and in terms of his game intelligence... dubious, but I can't rule it out...

TBF even Banahan himself said after the semi-final that he plays outside some pretty special players (Ford-Eastmond-Joseph) all he really has to do is get the basics right as a winger and they'll create the chances for him to finish off.

It wouldn't completely shock me, his strength in the air is unrivalled, I can't think of many NH wingers who can catch a ball going forward like him... And our best back three traditionally have a tall powerful left wing who's good in the air.... Still is Banahan.

I'll give you 70% and that's my final offer.
