England future management?

It suggests we are getting something right at junior level, which operates differently to senior level.
I'm not too sure. It's a fairly recent thing that we have started to dominate the JRWC, and we won't know the effects that that will have at senior level for another few years; all the achieving JRWC players are too young and inexperienced to make a massive difference internationally currently. But we are seeing the start of it: Ford, Itoje, Watson, Kvesic etc. coming through.

Within 4-5 years, when the older generations of other teams have retired and our high-achieving JRWC generation are hitting their peak years, I think we will see a massive difference internationally. Maybe not so that we are the best team in the world, but I think we will be up there.

Schmidt is current favourite to take over(4-1).Assuming Burt does go,and I don't think that's a given, then this is the guy who I would favour.
Anyone think Dean Ryan could do a job for us?

I don't think if he hasn't taken a club to a playoff, never mind a ***le, he should not be considered a contender for the national team.

Wasn't it Ryan who led Gloucester to topping the league, then getting wallopped in the play offs 2/3 years in a row?

Name one premiership coach that has always had success though?

I'd look for someone who has shown continued improvements in the team etc rather than someone who just won a ***le.

Every coach that has won ***le has also lost a fair few

There's a difference between winning some and losing some, and being comprehensively beaten at the business end of the season. Plus as far as I'm aware he didn't win any ***les? I'm not too clued up on the resources of Gloucester a decade ago, so no idea if he was punching above his weight. Their ability to win the league, but fail in the play offs suggests poor planning, at the least.

I agree that improvement can be a useful measure - some clubs don't have the resources to win. However, the premiership is relatively open (as in, multiple winners), and arguably you wouldn't want the England coach to be someone who's not faced the pressure/expectation of winning trophies.

He won the Championship last season.

Clive Woodward looks as if he's going to take part in the review of Englands performance. That can only be a positive move in my book.
He makes some strong points for waxing the current coaching set up as well as the representation,or lack of it,on the review panel.1.Would New Zealand select a rookie coach with no international experience?2.Would New Zealand offer 6 year contracts to a coach and his team who, after 3 years, had won absolutely zilch.3.Would New Zealand run a set up with nil international coaching experience anywhere in the organisation.
He reserves his best for RFU boss Ian Ritchie.Who has overseen Englands worst ever World Cup performance. For someone with nil experience or knowledge of Rugby he's been too close to team matters and lacks vision by the award of 6 year contracts to Bert & co.Why is he even on the panel?
No imput or representation from the Prem Clubs is laughable.

Best point he made was if you are going to copy anyone (like England have with NZ) then you will always be second to someone.

I think Ryan would be able to assemble a strong coaching team, and if we are sticking with an English coach then considering those who would be interested and those who are not, he would be a good shout.

However general consensus on here seems to be the need for a SH influence for a while.

SCW has written a fairly damning piece in the Mail, making sense as usual. Basically slamming the panel selection with the exception of Kay.

SCW seems to be waging a media offensive to try and get the RFU to sit up and take notice.

It might be because he wants the job, but I also feel he has genuine passion for English rugby.

How can we have a man of his achievements and knowledge and not use him. Compare Rob Andrew to him and quite frankly it's embarrassing.

Absolutely spot on!!!

Think serious questions will be asked if Lancaster fails to win the 6 nations again. Especially if we finish below 2nd.

Not that serious questions aren't being asked now but the media rampage may be too much after that.

The media has not reacted that strongly to the RWC group exit scenario, or not as strongly as I thought they would.

Which sort of goes in SL favour.

He clearly wants to keep the job, hence keeping his council until the wounds of failure are healed. Not that they will be for me!

Jeez! I hope Burts long gone before the 6N.He should have gone after the Uruguay game. All this review panel bullux is really starting to wind me up.What the f***k is there to review?
More like Ritchie covering his arse for his incompetence. We've failed miserably, won nothing, and never will with Burt as head coach.Whoever did the hiring should do the firing!
Take a leaf out of the Premier Football League approach. You don't perform you're history no ifs no buts.

I'd prefer that Lancaster resigned but we saw exactly the same thing in Cricket with Peter Moores. Don't see this turning out any different sadly.
