England 6N 2016 - General Chit Chat

We all knew it was coming buttercups, is it only me that thinks the whole captain thing is just a big red herring? Change it every game for all I care. We as a rugby nation spend far too much time worrying who calls the coin toss.

Tallshort - Are you serious after what Robshaw did at the world cup?

Owen Farrell ignored him once on a similar call, the fact he didn't a second time showed that was a team decision not just his. Like I said we seem so obsessed with finding the next Carling or the next Johnson when there were other players making as many decisions in those teams all along.

Hopefully that will happen with Beaumont, Clifford, itoje and others. We will have to wait and see but it's obvious you need a team of leaders.

No, but he's probably the best set piece hooker in England and that's important after the mess of the RWC. And it's also important to have experience around if we're feeding in the likes of George / LCD, Itoje, Clifford, Beaumont, Thomas and Kvesic.

This is an interim measure, George will have the shirt in a year.

I think it is a short term appointment.
I don't think Hartleys lumbering lack of athleticism is part of Jones blueprint for a more dynamic style of play. Ive got a strong feeling it will be LCD'S shirt in a years time and not Georges.
Jones didn't pick him ahead of Youngs for no reason and it'll be interesting to see if he wants to have a look at him during the 6N .

Exactly, makes no odds who the captain is, the team needs to front up with the captain as the figure head. If they don't you could pick Willie Johnson McCaw as your captain, you will still loose.

I don't think it's a short term appointment, at all.
The only way he'll lose it is when he's, inevitably, banned for the summer. Then if we get a bit of a kicking down under Eddie will bang on about how we were missing the dog/fight that Hartley brings and reinstate him for the Autumn.

He's not been shy of being a fan of Hartley - if he's even slightly stubborn then he'll stick with him because he's been banging on about him since before there was a sniff of Lancaster leaving (I remember him saying in the RWC we were missing Hartley).

I think it sets a bad precedent as he's actively not selecting his strongest side to accomodate his captain.
Something Lancaster was criticised for when playing Robshaw at 7

I find it quite funny the amount of u turns the public and pundits have done on Hartley.

Esp when you think about the things being said about him after that Final and after the george incident.

Let's see how we get on in a game first lol . Some of our best wins have been with Hartley at hooker . I think on here we are a bit keen to see huge change in personnel all the time . I'm intrigued to see what Eddie can do in training and hopefully we will see an improvement on the field

Side note any of you southern lot about is it true you lot do not go for Gravy and/or Curry Sauce on your Fish and Chips?

Coincedentally Hartley didn't start for that match against the All Blacks anyway.

Tigs, please tell me you don't consider Leicester to be Northern?

I live in Manchester/Cheshire way. Born and went school Leicester way.

And I don't consider Leicester to be northern.

I'll let you off ;) I've heard the same rumours about the chip freaks.

Apparently some even have mayo on them.

Curry is popular some eat gravy all are weird.

Plenty on vinegar and salt is all you need.

Bit different as Robhaw was playing out if position, upsetting the balance of the back row. Hartley is at least a specialist hooker.

With the silly amount of time they spend "in camp" these days the captain's role extends way beyond match day. And Jones's credibility is at stake in this job - this is a big call and he'll have taken soundings from everyone and their dog. He must have heard enough to counterbalance the obvious concerns.

My main concern is that the bloke isn't properly match fit. And let's not forget that Murrayfield can be a pretty vitriolic place, unlike anything George has experienced before; who knows how he might react.

And seriously, who else??
