EA Rugby 2008 Discussion Thread

It'd definitely sell better at the time of the world cup. It would be losing sales to wait too long afterwards.

I totally don't get why they'd want to release it AFTER the world cup. By releasing it just prior to world cup is the way to go because at the stage many nations will have faith in their team to take it out no matter how misguided it may be. However after the all blacks take them all to school and all the 6 nations fans suddenly realise just how average rugby is up their way they will no longer want to buy the ruggers game. :p
I say release beforehand and if by some miracle an NH team wins then its still a win win situation for EA as sales will continue to be strong and crap markets like NZ where games sales don't matter so much will only be a minor hit. [/b]

You totally dont get it? Well it is because there will be many people before the world cup who are fringe buyers and will consider it but most likely won't buy it, however as a result of watching the world cup, it will get them in the mood and the resultant is them buying the game.

And releasing the game slightly sooner will stop them from buying it how?

They would sell more if they releas it just prior and catch all of the people amped up by the upcoming World Cup, and if they advertise the game right they will sell many more just after...

Ideally though I'd like them to spend as much time as possible making a really decent game than to rush it for any deadline.

Ahhh good point, i spose if they release it beforehand, they'll be able to get the people who are hyped before it, and they'll get the sales from the people that are hyped after it aswell!! DOUBLE WHAMMY! lol, good thinkin!

just looked on the hive at hb-studios and it doesnt say anything about rugby 08 just that they have finished champions league 06-07 game. any one played it? is it out on xbox 360? what are the graphics like etc? as i guess they will be using a similar engine for this as what they are for 08.

Thank you, I thought so myself. Also watching your team get thrashed during the world cup may not be as big a motivation to buy the game as you seem to think. Hence release just prior to world cup and you win either way.

Its kinda strange that HB would mention Rugby 2008 on their 'hive' and then take out all reference a few weeks later, without really adding anything new. I wonder if EA has told them to take it off so they can announce the game exclusively? Or more worryingly that rugby 2008 is not happening? The mystery continues!

Developers always get scared off giving out too much info when they see or hear of a lot of fans talking about release dates early in the piece.

Maybe its that, they may be thinking that for the moment it might be a case of less said the better.

I remember Mario from Sidhe always regretted the release dates they posted up. The sense of expectation may have come on a little early for them.

Or maybe EA have also asked them to shut up for now as they and HB might be getting sick of e-mails and questions already.

These are possibilities.

Also you can't talk about EA without 'DELAYED' being mentioned in a sentence.

It was most likely to stop the fluctuation of emails asking wether they are going to making a game, the mass amount of emails were probably flooding there inboxes. :lol2tn: :lol2tn:

I think after is the more proabble release window. EA will advertise during the world cup and after to generate sales and a lot of people will be interested after having watched the real thing. any yeah it's EA so even if they did plan to release before or during the world cup it would likely be delayd till after it anyway

It seems to be a stupid idea for EA to deliberately release the game AFTER the world cup. Sure release it before the world cup, even during the world cup. But AFTER the world cup!? It makes no sense what-so-ever.

I can understand it if the game gets delayed but if someone has made the decision not to release it until after the tournament I would love to know their rationale.

Like I have said before - EA is basically a marketing company and for them to not take advantage of the huge marketing opportunity that is the Rugby World Cup is crazy.

I still expect to see the game released before the cup.

It's all about people to take they're own team to the world cup finals, or see if you can win the world cup with this years world cup winners.
Another factor is they can use the world cup to assess nations & player ratings. There may be a nation & player that would normally have an average rating prior to world cup, then do well in the world cup.
The way current nations are developing, unexpected victories are more possible in the world cup.

base the team ratings on the cup yes!! that way england will be ranked near the bottom for once!

lol, you're assuming England will be near the bottom. I loathe England and think there are up **** creek, but they'll make the Quarters and give a big hard push for the Semi's.

The idea of basing the outcomes of the RWC is great, as there will certainly be surprise packages.

Yeah it sounds great in theory, but think about it, how come England have been so grossly overrated in the last couple of rugby games. The reason is simply that they have such a large player base and sales in the region are probably higher than elsewhere. So given EAs past track record it's likely they will nudge up the stats of countries where the game sells most in order to curry favour with potential gamers there, regardless of how they perform come world cup time.

Thats fine if they push up the ratings by 2-3 points out of 100, but I do see your point. England in '06 are still about 5 points too high. By their standards since '06 came out they are about 6-7 points too high.

I can't play as my home team the All-Blacks as they are too highly rated. I reckon you should be able to hinder a team. I think it'd be awesome if you could, for example, choose one of these options:

Your team trained poorly and are cock sure of themselves (lowers team stats by 3 overall)
Some of team have a virus (lowers stats on the team by 5 overall)
Two of your star players are injured (lowers stats on the team by 7 overall)

Or

Your opposition is playing on a day of national significance to them. (Raises their stats by 3 overall)
Your opposition have been on a winning streak. (Raises their stats by 5 overall)
One of your team has mouthed off in the press about the 'useless' opposition! (Raises other teams stats by 7)

If you could like do a random spin on the play now screen and some of these options came up, it'd present a challenge for good players whose own home team is too good for the opposition they want to play.

If you won a match in these conditions, you could win points towards an unlockable.

Do you guys like this idea at all?
