Looking forward to the upcoming champions trophy, hard to say who the Favourites are..... probs SA, but it should be very competitive. Naturally, I'm backing NZ to win and in all honest I think we've got a real good shot. But then again so do most of the sides, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

So so sad to see the state of West Indies cricket. Hard to believe that it wasn't so long ago that they were totally dominant and feared by all.

Being a sublimely talented sportsman doesn't stop you from being a common thug.

We might as well just hand the Ashes over now. It's a weak squad at best but I suspect that Stokes will be removed from the squad.

Sounds odd to say that when you've got the 2 top English wicket takers in history, the top run maker, the best batsman in years and, if available, the best all rounder in years, plus Moeen who's invariably useful. But I agree, the weak links are too weak and Stokes being out would trash the balance.

Can you see anyone other than Root scoring runs? Cook is not In the same "nick" as when he toured in 2010. Bairstow might be good for a few runs - as will Moeen lower down the order - but beyond that we'll struggle at 3 & 5.

In terms of bowling the Aussie wickets are hard and bouncy. Jimmy and Broad will be our main bowlers - injuries permitting......- but I don't see much variety beyond that. I question what Rashid has done to not be suitable for selection as I rate him.

I feel like Cook is becoming more of a home specialist as he gets older. Maybe the stats won't bavknthatbup but I feel it which makes me right. He certainly won't be in the same form as in 2010 (although a lot else has changed besides him - including the Aus bowling attack).

Jimmy also could be ineffective in Aus conditions. I'm really starting to worry about this side - as you say, the strengths are strong but the weak links are too weak. James ******* Vince is back, are you KIDDING me?! Are we that desperate?

The Aussie bowling attack - assuming they remain fit - is far stronger than 2010. I worry where our runs are going to come from. Root will be under huge pressure.

Itreally helps if you start well in Aussie.
If you show early weakness then the Aussie press start hounding you out and the crowds follow suit and they don't let up.
A strong early showing would change the atmosphere.

So, Pattinson has knackered his back and won't play in the Ashes. This is a real shame as he's had a reasonable season for Notts in the county championship. I suspect the fourth bowling spot will be taken by either Lyon or Coulter-Nile.

I guess Ian Bell is truly finished now, i was hoping a break from international cricket would revitalise himbecause hes the player they need to balance the batting order.

I think you and I have a better chance of batting #3 in Oz. For whatever reason he's finished, which surprises me as they've given Ballance another chance to prove himself.

I can only presume it's his age that counts against him.

Just did some research on Bell and he hasnt scored a FC century since April last year, so i guess he really is cooked.

To be fair none of the players in contention for that spot have had a good season. There hasn't been one standout English batsman this summer.

Well you could always recruit another South African batsmen to fill the slot. They've been doing that for the past 20 years...

I watched the SA/Bangladesh game over the weekend and was wondering if Hashim Amla had an English grandparent somewhere. He's such a good player.
