Laaaaaaaame....

No Pacific Nations... no ARC... so our players are basically forced to play amateurish third rate club rugby if they're not called up to the Wallabies...

In related club rugby news - from next year Brumbies players who aren't involved in Wallabies duties will be playing in the Canberra competition instead of the Sydney and Brisbane comps in the hopes of boosting the Canberra competition, which really isn't that far behind...

Well, two more developments confirmed which is the return of the Junior All Blacks, but the cutting of NZ Maori which is quite drastic takes us back down to 5 teams.

So i ask the question, should another team come in? It would be a great step-up for USA, Canada or maybe Korea/Chile. I don't think there is another islands team of note.. maybe Cook Islands or a combined Pacific Islanders from the other islands if you like. You could have Argentina also, but it's not really in the Pacific region, but who cares lol

yeh if the USA could come in hopefully the sport of rugby could be promoted more in the USA making more and better players join and see if they can challenge teams like south africa and new zealand.

I only just realised we weren't fielding a team. If Fiji, Samoa and Tonga can afford it, why da f*** can't we? Honestly it would be so valuable for guys like Tuqiri, Tahu, Hynes, Beale etc to test themselves and push for a first team jersey.

Bad

Loss of great team always lowers the quality of a tournament

And does it mean the Wallabies will lack experience in international games?

Unfortunately those not involved in Wallaby duties are forced back to playing in the club competitions in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra... and they're all of a very poor quality...

It means it stunts development for a future players right?

Bad very bad, I have seen how talented players are fading away by staying in a Club level rugby

It's a tragedy in my country, either French clubs transfer and SAVE them as a rugby players, or in a better case they are heading to Romania where Culb rugby is more developed or they are just staying in Georgian club rugby and no development and no progress

If you mean France Top 14 and other French leagues and Romania leagues (where most players are distributed) up to 90% of National team squad is there

Others and this number is actually small play in Georgia and Russia

Sorry to come to this argument so late but Canada, USA and Argentina Jaguars (second team) all played in the Churchill Cup which, I believe, conflicts with this Pacific tournament. The Churchill Cup also had England Saxons, Ireland A and Georgia.

Who are the best teams in this tournament? Is everyone competitive?

Unfortunately Ireland and England are nearly another level above the other teams but they'll only get better playing decent teams each year. Ireland won it this year beating England 49-22 in the final.

This is a misleading comment in my opinion.

Argentina's Jaguars were very competitive against England in addition to getting two good wins vs Canada and the USA. They were very competitive against the Saxons, losing 28-20. Argentina's Jaguars are going to be stronger in future because the PladAR program is doing good things for the players involved. They are clearly better players due to the training regime. This is the first year and it started in February so give it time and, specifically, give the players time and the results are going to mean a better set of players.

They could very well play in the 2010 Pacific Nations Cup given that Australia won't and that the IRB own it and are the major financial assistant of the Jaguars. The USA will play Uruguay home and away in November for Americas 2 World Cup qualification. It should be a series of wins for the United States but it should also be a good occasion for Uruguay to be looked at as entering the Churchill Cup. If the Jaguars are to play in the Pacific Nations Cup then this would be perfect preperation for the World Cup play-offs elimination encounter. Uruguay are part of the IRB Nations Cup with Romania, Russia, Italy A, Scotland A and France A. Clearly there place could and possibly should go to an African team. The winner of Africa 1 between Namibia and Tunisia would be ideal as it would act as great preperation for the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.

Two points.

1. Sad to see the Maori no longer involved in the Pac Nations Cup.

2. Would be an excellent move to include the Jaguars, and start the expansion of the cup into South America. Really can't see a Pac Island team outside of Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand being competitive. Maybe down the track look at Uruguay Los Teros(????) and Korea?
