Anyone know who influential any of these guys actually are? That there are people who believe this should happen is ridiculous enough but I'd hope they're on the periphery even though more may believe it just not be stupid enough to say it on tv.

Never heard of the first guy. Probably just some wierdo with a fringe organization desperate for attention and money. Gun Owners of America is a more extreme version of the NRA. It is known, but not very influential as far as I know. Most of the Congressmen he had on are relatively well know if you follow Republican politics. Someone like me can probably recognize 40 or so, and I knew all of them. Trent Lott is the former majority leader of the Senate during the Bush years, so a big guy.

Two things:
1. I'd like to see the raw footage. Some of that was obviously pretty bad, but a lot looked like it was cut up deceptively.
2. I owned my first bb gun at 7. My first .22 rifle at around 12. The first time I fired my dad's shotgun was probably around 9. My parents were slow about getting me involved with guns for where we lived. I remember all the boys would show off their shoulder bruise at school the day after their dad's let them shoot a shotgun for the first time. I'm sure if these congressmen grew up in rural areas that guns were a part of their lives from when they can remember. This is going to be hard for some Euros (or Americans who grew up in urban areas) to grasp, but that's why they would be comfortable arguing for a training program where boys shoot. These programs already exist outside of schools. I was regularly shooting guns at Cub Scouts and church boy's groups. And like I said, I'm sure some of the footage was deceptively edited to emphasize the pre-school aspect.

You are not understanding Trump and you are not comprehending what I am saying.

You have got to be joking, there is no genius bigger plan in Trumps game...

You are responding to a narrative which is in your head, not any post I've made. You seem to be conflating Trump with preexisting political gripes that you have with the USA.

No, I'm pointing out that any claim by any American that they are spending money defending Europe is utter ********, America's reasons for their bloated military spending and military presence in Europe are entirely selfish. That's not a gripe, it's a fact of world politics. America wants to be world policemen which means they have their military in countries all round the world. We did it when we had the empire.

Yes, the USA establishment since after WWII had paid for Europe's defense and allowed them favorable trade terms.

Absolute crap. Yeah they paid for our defence a bit after WW2 but it wasn't long before European armies had rebuilt. Favourable trade terms? Er no. Americans set it up so they could export lots of good to Europe, WE were the net importers and America's big export market. WE bought American goods using money the Americans had loaned to us during the war (which they charged interest on) and only recently paid off. Now things have turned around and Europe exports more to the USA but you are seriously ill educated if we are exporting to the USA because we got beneficial trade deals. The trade deals were beneficial but for BUYING from the USA, not selling to the USA. The reason we export to the USA is due to basic competition. Funny how the Americans loved enforcing free trade when they were the most productive nations with the goods to sell but as soon as other nations catch up, suddenly free trade is horrible.

In return the USA establishment was able to use European power as a supplement to our own power in the game of global politics. That made sense in the Cold War, and the American people were willing to pay this price to contain communism. The world order changed when the Iron Curtain fell, but the USA establishment now wanted to keep playing their games. I'm sure it's fun to try and run the world, and then there's all the special interests / bureaucracy / military industrial complex / etc that have a stake in continuing to get their piece of the pie.

This is all true enough

After 25 years and failure after failure of USA foreign policy the USA elected Trump. He ran on a campaign of eliminating the Deep State, draining the swamp and overturning US foreign policy.

And since taking office all he has done is created a state that is more in line with what you would find in a dictatorship and caused the swamp to overflow. As for overturning US foreign policy? Yeah he has, but not in a good way. He has alienated every ally of the USA, started a global trade war that, contrary to what he says, the USA will lose, attempted to dismantle NATO, failed to observe even basic decorum as a guest in other countries, trashed Americas image internationally, trashed his own intelligence agencies, completely ignored the principles behind free press and cosied up to 2 of Americas enemies. Compare the amount of criticism Trump has fired at Russia to how much he has fired at any of America's allies. Think if Trump was a Russian mole who was told to destabilise the West, the USA and NATO, what would he do differently to what he has already done?

He's not interested in buying off Europe in exchange for Europe agreeing to be junior partners. He either wants a fair alliance.

You're not good at spotting bullshit are you? Have you even looked at how Trump conducts his business? He intentionally chooses small companies, bullies them, refuses to pay them and then sues them. The guy has never cared for fairness in his entire life and somehow you've bought the line that that is what he wants? Quite frankly you are SERIOUSLY ******* stupid if you believe that. What is he doing? Getting aggressive and trying to bully smaller countries into a deal that will be better for HIM (not the USA) EXACTLY the same as how he conducted his business. The USA and Europe already have free trade agreements, which is fair. Did it ever cross your mind that you might be importing Europe stuff because some things we can simply produce better and cheaper? Of course not, it must be down to unfair practices. Can you name any of these unfair practices?

He's not willing to use the wealth created by the American people to subsidize European defense or give you trade deals that are unfair to the American worker, and I think US voters agree with that.

Well how lucky for him the USA isn't subsidising our defence nor does America have unfair trade deals with Europe. As with most things he says, it is just and out and out LIE.

A fair alliance involves actual German / Italian / French troops fighting along side as equal partners of the US / UK / Canada in a situation like Afghanistan where the NATO treaty was invoked after an attack on the US homeland. It involves even financial contributions. If they don't want to do that, then Trump walks away. He doesn't care about using Europe as a staging ground or getting European votes at the UN, because he's not interested in the American Empire or running the world.

This is about the only point that can be raised militarily that is justified, other European nations have not pulled their weight in the NATO mission in Afghanistan, which has UN backing.

Donald Trump has only given the UK one star on his Trip Advisor review of his recent visit.

He criticised many aspects of this trip, including the food. "When I booked I had expected bed and Brexit," Trump wrote. "I had wanted a Full English Brexit, but was disappointed to find that the landlady had gone for a more Continental offering"

The weather also faced his online ire. "The Sun put me in a tricky situation," he said. "They really turned the heat up on me and made things awkward with Landlady May."

Fake, those quote are full, coherent sentences.

The biggest thing I can't stand about Brexit is how the Leave lot seem to think that only a handful of people voted remain.

The right to keep EU citizenship has popped up again and some of the counter arguments are pretty ridiculous to read.

The USA screwed over the UK after WWII. Germany has screwed us over economically. That's a minor issue compared to Mexico and Asia, though.
The USA was one of the most protectionist countries until the Cold War. It's what made us the richest country in the world. The land of high wages and low rents. Between free trade and mass immigration our ruling class is doing their best to take away both those things.

started a global trade war that, contrary to what he says, the USA will lose,
The USA has been the big loser under the current global economic system, especially since NAFTA and letting China into the WTO. We are the richest market. We are the large economy least integrated into the rest of the world. We have one of the most productive workforces. The USA will win from more protectionism. China and Germany will be the big losers.

I understand BMWs are better than Fords. Germany needs to sell BMWs in the US more than we need to buy them.
It's not about fair as in even, though the auto tariff into the EU is much higher than into the US. It's about fair to the US worker. I want our government to get the best deal possible out of Germany. They don't deserve kid gloves.

Which European nations have not pulled their weight in Afghanistan?
All the big European countries other than the UK.

Trump has now claimed the Queen inspected the honour guard for the first time in 70 years in his honour...

I mean seriously, what a stupid lie. Amazing to think some Americans still believe he is honest when he is coming out with such crap daily. Fit any Americans who don't realise, Elizabeth hasn't even been Queen for 70 years and she inspects the honour guard multiple times every year. It happens with every significant guest she gets.

He'll do his usual that this was what he was told (without ever revealing who told him this) and so he is not responsible for repeating something he was told and that appealed to his ego.

Sigh
The Iranian leader didn't even threaten the USA, that was just how the headlines twisted it.
He said if the USA invaded Iran they would defend their country with untold ferocity, And the media span it as "Iranian leader says if USA doesn't calm down they will unleash untold ferocity on them" or something similar
Trump is 100% the type of guy to read a headline and not the article though

The thing is is that it does nothing to Trump's poll numbers at home. In fact his supporters love him for these kind of threats. Until he's voted out in 2 years time or finishes his 2 terms this is what the world has to get used to.

November mid terms will let us know more, but it looks like these kind of threats will be par for the course until he leaves office.

The real danger is that by then, it's been normalised; and the next Repugnant goes further still.

Well, that and the ever increasing gerrymandering and voter-suppression the US indulges in making the elections ever less "free and fair".
I see a lot of liberals moaning about the Electoral College system; I can't help thinking that they're simply missing the point - the Electoral College is just a (rather extreme) version of first pas tthe post; nowhere near the heart of the real issues with American democracy.

The electoral college is actually a huge issue.

It makes certain peoples' votes counts more than others. It just happens that the people who get more powerful votes come from less popular areas and they tend to look a certain way.

First past the post might result in certain people's votes counting for less but it's not an explicit part of the design.
