A Political Thread pt. 2

About time. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Justice from a system that absolutely ruined lives and led to people killing themselves. The path people had to take to get even here is unbelievable. The likes of Ed Davey at the time brushed them off. He now claims it's because the Post Office lied to him.

The more you read about this and the Horizon scandal it's absolutely horrific. How the justice system, government and more importantly the Post Office screwed these people is unbelievable.

The Post Office ruined peoples lives and then begged the government for help with compensation because they couldn't afford it. Mr Bates vs The Post Office is meant to be worth a watch, just not had a chance yet.

What do you expect?

There is f_k all justice in the justice system - its all about lining pockets.

If they'd any real will to sort this*, they'd lump all the cases together and get them all sorted within a month. Faulty software is invalid evidence.

If it were a conviction based on a DNA test later demonstrated as erroneous, all convictions based on it would be quashed immediately.

*but they don't. Far more money to be milked from drawing each case out individually and reaming the public purse for a few billion more... and the government - being mostly lawyers themselves - are completely complicit.

Witnessed an 82 year old get assaulted today outside of McDonald's. He got pushed back after his mate pushed past him whilst pushing their bike. He fell back with some force. What is wrong with some people today? Both of them just swanned off without a care in the world.

Helped the gentleman up to sit on the bench and called for an ambulance. Was on the phone to the operator for a good 10 mins answering his questions and then after that it was this needs to be reviewed by a clinician who will call you back in 4 hours. 4 hours??? No wonder this country's ambulance service is going down the toilet. In the end they did call me back after an hour and 3/4s.

Anyway, in the end helped the gentleman into a Greggs for a cup of tea and then got him a taxi to his care home. Hopefully they will send someone around to his care home when he gets back to check on him after the Ambulance service eventually called back.

Police called and said they would Call around to him tomorrow. CCTV better have been working in the town centre.

There's a trend here in the USA where groups of young people will run into stores to steal items and then run out. While doing that they almost always knock over people that are caught off guard. And a lot of older folks have been injured and even killed during these mass lootings. Craziness is a world wide problem.

No justice system is perfect and if anyone came up with one would be the messiah. The main issue is the ability to defend yourself is based on your income. There's a massive difference from getting state legal aid and affording a barrister from a chambers in London.

The problem in this case was the Post Office and Fujitsu presenting the Horizon software as being perfect and that evdence being accepted. The money and funds the rich and big business have vs people who couldn't afford it and defend themselves.

I don't think the system is corrupt. I'm friends with people who work boths sides and they have the highest integrity. If it was as bad as you say nobody should be voting for Sir Keir Starmer KC as he was head of that corrupt system lining pockets.

Well done for stepping in to help the old fella.

This is what really annoys me. When Sunak or some Tory minister gets put in front of a camera all they talk about is stopping the boats just to serve as a distraction and to keep the far right happy. There's barely any mention of the state of the NHS, crumbling schools, the economy shrinking thanks largely to Brexit not to mention an inept justice system. Some of the revelations from this post office scandal are just shocking. Postmasters told they'd have to plead guilty if they want to stay out of jail as they wouldn't stand much chance against the Crown in a legal battle. All this while we have politicians embroiled in dodgy PPE contracts, Partygate, Nadim Zahawi's failure to declare millions in income to HRMC magically going off the radar etc. I read a while back that traces of cocaine were found in almost every toilet in the House of Commons - what have Lindsay Hoyle and others done about it? Sod all. It really is one set of rules for the plebs and another for those in power.

TBF Cocaine which is a white "affluent" person drug has always been policed differently to other Class A drugs (or even Class B or C) "party" drugs always have.

But yeah justice system has loads of cracks with people trying to paint over them much like the NHS. Surprisingly Gove is only justice minister they'd had that was actually respected for what he was trying to do. The issue is the governement not the people working in it.

******* hell
It's mad, all basically because they were not paying staff equally. They botched an IT programme, and let predominantly male workers "job and knock" and females couldn't.

Now the public have got to bail them out. Que Incoming Tories "This is what it'll be like under a labour government yada yada". Dispite the chronic lack of government under funding for years. Shouldn't effect Labour to
that much as i can't see Birmingham turning blue. Like the Post Office those in charge should be asked some serious questions.

Got an update from the police who called around to the old fella this morning. He went to the Dr's/hospital after he got home and was there for about 8 hours having scans. Thankfully no fractures but it turned he did hit his head when pushed and has a very sore back after the incident and struggling to get out of bed.

Police scouring the CCTV footage now as I gave an accurate time and location of the incident as the old fella got confused and thought he was assaulted outside Greggs.

Thousands of lives ruined, multiple false dismissals, prosecutions and suicides and the best we can get is she hands back an honour? Surely there is some criminal negligence that needs to be levelled against those involved?
Well no one seems to be talking about the man at the top when it all happened Mr Crozier for some reason.

My parents were postmasters at this time and used the Horizon system which my mum said worked fine. She did say that the post office was suffering from some corrupt postmasters and nepotism in it's head office at the time so everyone was making bad decisions and no one was prepared to say they were wrong.

Complete scandal, nearly as bad as Saville.

Hence why getting this implemented was so important but they didn't.
As much as they should have a duty of candour law. No public body, local authority or political party is going to want one. It means they have to tell the truth, can't cover things up and possibly face a civil action / lawsuit. The fact we have to propose a law to get that is sickening.

Yes and means that they open themselves up to massive liabilities and paying out when they do get it so wrong, especially as many public bodies including my local authority's finances are going up **** creek.

Still, this scandal, to go with Grenfell, the contaminated blood and Covid. The price of justice and accountability, which cases of like show up. Is this how we want to live as a society?

Another issue with the justice system is that the people convicted will still be suffering the consequences even if they are exonerated.

Take this couple for example. They won't receive justice. They will only get the barest form of apology and the ones who did this will still continue on with their lives as if nothing happened.
