Yet they have not tried to engage with South Cambs at any point or acknowledge services have taken no hit and they've actually made savings. The amount local authorities spend on agency and temps is staggering.

If they can hold out to the next GE i think they'll carry on.

The response is very typical of this government, all evidence points to it actually working but they don't want it for ideological reasons. Reducing staff turnaround alone is huge, it's amazing how management seem utterly clueless about how disruptive people joining and leaving a company is.

Yep - the experiment seems to show that with 4-day weeks, everyone's a winner (similar to hybrid work-from-home).
So this government's response is a knee-jerk "get back to work, peasants!" with an undercurrent of "won't someone think of the landlord investment companies?"

Management where I work put a stop on requests from some to go to 4 day weeks, so those people just left instead. We've lost nearly 100 years combined experience because of it.

"What will your customers do if you're not available 5 days a week?"

The same as if that person is ill or on leave I imagine.

Plus why does a 4 day working week have to mean everyone works the same 4 days? You can keep the office going 5 days a week with staggered 4 day week rosters. It's people who have motives beyond wanting what is actually best. You'd think if you get the job done and do everything that's expected of you, that is all that's required but apparently not. I think a large chunk of management are there for egos and for control, not because they actually have a clue about managing people.

Its varies a lot of this tends to be HR led as opposed to manager led. And a lot of it can come from one rule for them and another for me. Manufacturing workers for example have stricter working hours

I got into a heated debate with one boss why he felts workers who had to work in the office deserved more pay than those who could work from home. My argument was your were paid for technical skill not your working arrangements, this was when I was regularly working 12 hour days (usually about 9 hours after breaks) from home so I could cooridinate with Canada better.

It also comes from people who are either extremely devoted to the job so work lots of additional hours including during their leave (and a lot of high level managers do) or people in government who frankly have never done normal working hours in their life.

So it plays into the hands of Blue-collar workers who have very perscribed hours and over dedicated white collar workers. Your standard white collar grunts who just want to earn their paycheck and be productive in their hours and do a good job. They just don't get looked at.

This is despite that there is ample of evidence that 4 day working weeks increases productivity and working from home has no discernable effect.

Everyone will eventually come around but its a mentality thing about explaining to people that 5 day 35-40 hours weeks in the office whilst a good model isn't actually the most efficient.

A Conservative MP has been sacked from his government job after breaking ranks to publicly urge Rishi Sunak to back a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Paul Bristow was dismissed as a ministerial aide at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on Monday after writing to the prime minister to call for an end to hostilities between Israel and Hamas to save lives.

So much for the Conservatives being the champion of free-speech.

Tanks currently on the offensive heading towards Gaza City.

Estimates are 8,000 killed since the Hamas attack, UN says 70% women and children.

Next few days are going to be pivotal for the Middle East, especially to see what other nations in the area do

I mean is he any different to Putin when it comes to regard for civilian life? He's a war monger who wants to consolidate his grip on power. His rhetoric is so inflammatory and appalling - he's even managed to fall out with the UN.

If this was any other country without ties to the west then sanctions from the west would have been imposed by now.

Cain is already laying the ground work. The wrong crisis for Bojo's skill set. Speaking in layman's terms: he was **** and not up to the job!

I was trying to think of what would be a good crisis for BJ's skill set - but actually, he got that too - PR and charisma were required for the Ukraine crisis (and an absolute necessity of distracting the UK populace)
