A Political Thread pt. 2

It's alarming how it's took this long for people to turn on them to be honest. Boris, Truss etc were damaging, but a lot of the issues we now face go right back to when Cameron and Osborne got hold of the keys. Almost everything we're facing now is down to Osbornes delusional idea of economics that only looked after tory friends.

How the likes of JRM, Bone etc ever got to be an mp is damning on those that voting them in. They've spent a lifetime coasting.

Buildings collapsing is clearly a long term problem. Just a can that was kicked down the road from one administration to another. Now Sunak's Govt want to pass the problem onto Labour as well as an NHS on it's knees.

I dread to think what sort of corruption, tax evasion etc. has gone on over the years. We know Matt Hancock was handing out PPE contracts to his mates. Nadim Zahawi had a big HMRC investigation for undeclared income. What will happen to him? Nada. One set of rules for them and another for the plebs. Rees Mogg owns an investment firm and I dread to think how much he (and others) have abused their position and used market sensitive inside information when making investment decisions. I've said it before that there's no governance in Government. It's like the wild west and Lindsay Hoyle is about as effective as a chocolate fireguard. Parliament, No.10 and the civil service should have proper rules, codes and policies that need to be followed just like companies have for their employees. Convention can get tae f.

Agreed! If this was any normal company they would have been fired, probably a police investigation with time and a criminal record. It's awful how they get away it.

The civil service do and they are held massively accountable if they break it.

The issue is politicians and political appointee.

The politicians will most likely argue the public will determine the repercussions of their actions, but we all know that's a broken model due to political spin and courier journalism we have in this country.

I'm not sure what would work though. An independent watcher with some actual teeth?

Watching ITV this morning and the breakfast show was going mental about 2 hostages being released and how wonderful it was etc etc and it will be the main story throughout the show and Hamas were all evil (which they are to be fair) and here is the family of the hostages and I said to the long suffering missus: "what about all the Palestinians getting killed? Does that seem to pass everyone by"

I have never been a "never trust anything on MSM" type of person but there is something fundamentally wrong with the current press coverage of what's going on in Israel. We are all falling over ourselves for a couple of British or American passport holders but the death of 1000s of Palestinians is not even a side note.

It feels like we have progressively become desensitised to certain groups of people being killed and I really don't agree with it.

It's mad really. Reports are more than 5,000 Palestinians have died since Israel started it's bombardment.

Obviously should be said this information is from the authorities in Gaza, so Hamas, and terrorists will be included in that figure as well.

There's a massive propaganda war going on. I was watching BBC world news this morning and there was far more prominence given to the Israeli hostages and casualties than there was to Palestinian civilians/casualties. There were rolling text headlines quoting 200 hostages and 1400 Israeli deaths and no stats for Palestinians.

A Netanyahu Govt v Hamas is cuntz v cuntz in my eyes and there are millions of innocent civilians (Israeli and Palestinian) caught in the middle. There is no good guys v bad guys storyline here IMO. Netanyahu was claiming he shares our values etc. but the contempt he has shown for innocent people (children, babies and elderly) by depriving them of water, food and electricity just shows that he's no better than the Hamas scum who launched these attacks in the first place.

And apparently Netanyahu's son is still in Miami. Even the Israelis and IDF are questioning this.

I'm seeing this too. Everytime someone dares to bring up Israels own record, people on social and general media go on the attack of that person. It's nuts to see how blatant it is.

Nice to see the government are focusing on things to help the average person in their dying days...
  • New rules against unfair forced evictions put on hold
  • Suggestion to lower the top rate taxes
  • Remove cap on bankers bonuses
  • Reduce stamp duty
  • Removal of environmental restrictions
  • Reduction of green energy initiatives
  • Potential fire sale of HS2 land

All of these to benefit the country and definitely none of them disproportionately benefit their mates...
