A Political Thread pt. 2

Yeh I have nothing against Williams personally, just the institution that has made him relevant. If he does it in a role as an elected President limited to a fixed term then fine. At least he's accountable if he doesn't fulfil his target.

While I like the initiative I don't think he'll have an huge impact. Homelessness and housing crisis needs to be tackled as a society. It means building enough affordable homes to not only meet demand but have surplus in future and that hasn't happened for decades. It means providing support services in every area of the UK to help those who are negative spirals that keep them homeless because they are unable to solve their problems alone. These services have been gutted by the current government. It means rejuvenating to help lower crime and give young people real prospects so they don't turn to crime in the first place. Again, this is against a government that has gutted youth services. It means making sure people have a livable wage and can cope with the cost of living and as a society the rich are getting richer and the middle class and poor are just getting poorer.

If his measure is purely providing more places to sleep for those sleeping rough then I guess he could have an impact, but in terms of dealing with the issue as a whole it needs more than a prince using his public profile to solve. We need a fundamental shift in the way British society views the issue.

Absolutely and we should stop just viewing homelessness as rough sleepers on the street instead of families who can't afford their mortgage or rent and have been bunged into temporary housing and are stuck there.

Another example, one of the guys at the barbers I go to just split with his wife and is temporarily homeless. He's been offered a hotel room by the council and that's it.

Unfortunately employed single males, especially divorces are bottom of the list on a points based allocation. Not even taking into maintenance support for children etc. The expectation being employed means you can afford a one bed bedsit, even if it's a sh#thole or you can afford a house / room share.

Changes are you'll be waiting for a very long time for your own local authority or housing association place.

All the water companies do is leak the water captured or fail to stop sewage getting pumped into rivers.

It really is a different set of rules once you reach a certain point. I have to fight tooth and nail for any tiny little pay rise whilst these people expect stupid salaries and even more stupid bonuses for simply doing their job badly.
