A Political Thread pt. 2

I've seen a lot people say that's what Charles is expected to do, not sure if that's wishful thinking of something he's said in the past

yeah I think now is when they'll make major reforms to the crown estate and the holdings of the duchies

Reality is now will be a massive change in things. Have to be none of these royals have Elizabeth's popularity. Once the good will ends things will turn ugly if they don't shrink it.

Commonwealth will prob see the majority of Caribbean and Pacific island leave, or demand a proper agreement with things like free movement or something.

I think it's more now that taking away assets from the royal family won't be viewed as hurting Liz there won't be anything stopping the commons from chipping away at their benefits. Charles won't be able to stop a parliament that wishes to transfer assets from the crown's corporate bodies to the state.

FTFY

I only just found out that the royal land had immunity from compulsory purchases.

and the tax and duty exemptions need getting rid off

Rather annoying that there is an almost total media blackout in the UK at the precise moment some of the most important events of the past year are unfolding. This guy appeared in my YouTube feed and seems promising for anyone wanting a 5 minute daily update. Here he is a couple of weeks back reporting Russian successes (to show he is capable of objectivity).

And here he is talking about the rather remarkable developments in the last 48hrs.

Izyum is looking incredibly promising, unless Russia can respond quickly. Apparently they've been making a push NE of Kharkiv (which is a fair distance from where the action is happening) but I don't know if they can quickly reposition to try and counter the Ukrainian action. Its mad to me that biggest success is in the front lines closest to the Russian border. Kherson also appears to potentially be gathering momentum, so it's not like that's been a complete bluff down there to open up a chance around Kharkiv.

One thing that this war seems to be repeatedly showing is the sheer tactical and strategic ineptitude of the Russian armed forces. As usual the whole "macho man" image was just posturing. It seems their sole strategy is to just bludgeon their way to victory and when that fails, they don't appear capable of re-assessing the situation. If it wasn't for the vast advantage they had in manpower, munitions and equipment, they would likely be getting humiliated and kicked out of the country by now.

It also looks like NATO training and guidance has had a fair impact on the Ukrainian army and must be worrying Russia, they are struggling to deal with a side NATO is only helping on the side. Against a full on conflict with NATO, it looks like Russia wouldn't be able to last much beyond the first month if they attacked with plenty of preparation and all the advantages they could have.

Long thought with some of his more public views the reason why the press attack Charles is he air of someone who might take an active role in reforming some ****.

Also dint think he'll keep his gob shut unlike the Elizabeth who just dressed as the EU flag instead.

Think there a joke going about along the lines of:

Russian wife asks her husband what's going on in the Ukraine. He says its a proxy war between Russia and NATO.

Wife: so how's it going then?
Husband: we have lost 40k troops and massive amounts of equipment.
Wife: what about NATO?
Husband: They haven't shown up yet.
