A Political Thread pt. 2

I think our Prime Ministers have gotten worse with time. BoJo is definitely the worst in my lifetime followed by May and then Cameron. I thought Blair was a pretty good PM and operated well on the world stage but Iraq ruined him. Brown was very bright, capable and worked his backside off apparently - just not media friendly enough which is a pity as I would rank substance over style unlike most voters. I liked how Brown refused to be George W Bush's poodle, unlike Blair. Can't remember much about Thatcher (wasn't into politics back then) but I would say Major is probably the least worst Tory PM I can remember.
I remember Thatcher and although there is a lot of bad things you can say about her there would be no way on earth she would have been getting ****** up during a lock down.

John Major was actually ok, economically and foreign policy was good but the UK domestically was a mess in the early to mid 90s but then it was also pretty rough in the early 00s when gun and drug crime went through the roof.

Miss the coalition...

Sunak's wife has £500m investment in a Russian IT firm. Wonder if she's pulled that investment? Sunak apparently has no idea.

Well, I'm no fan of the Tories as my posting history would show, but to be fair, what's he supposed to do or say?

"Yes, I will go home and order by wife to sell those shares immediately... and tell her to sort my dinner while she's at it." She is her own person and responsible for her own decisions.

And more accurately, its 'Sunak's wife has a £500m investment in the multinational firm her dad founded, which happens to have established an office in Moscow' (it looks to have offices in ~50 countries).

Shitty media sensationalism and barking up the wrong tree to boot.

The issue is that India are trying to walk down both sides of the road. The question that should have been asked is; "India and Israel have refused to condemn and sanction Russia for their invasion of Ukraine. Are these the actions of friendly countries and should the UK re-evaluate our agreements with these nations?"

Actually when companies are being pressured to pull out of Russia and stop doing business there, why shouldn't that apply to investors like Sunak's wife. If he's part of a government that supposedly wants to cripple Russia economically, then shouldn't his family also participate by not investing in Russian companies?

God our evening news has such a hard on for war. I was in second grade when we started going over to the Middle East and we finally pulled out last fall. Like I don't think older people understand that for a lot of people being at war is all we've ever known.

So your saying one person in the marriage should be able to dictate what the other does?

when a close family member's financial interest create conflict of interest the family member either needs move the interests into a blind trust or sell OR the other person needs to step down from the position that creates the conflict of interest

No, I'm saying that if politicians are asking businesses and others one thing then they should also be willing to ask themselves and their family to do it. However, since when have conservative politicians ever done what they ask of others?

Yeh photo op. He did one with Bojo with a pint and doesn't even drink.
I know most politicians will do it, but there is a difference between a photo op that happens as part of an event and a photo op where you completely stage it.

Start looking for them and they are all around - literally every leaflet is full of completely staged photos.

It just speaks to some quite good social media, PR and photography people that it goes over most people's heads tbh

I'm sure. I guess Sunak is under fire not because he staged the op, but he was incompetent enough to get caught.

I think it speaks more to the quality of the stages photos, ie they are pretty damn good. Rishi looks like a stock picture of someone filling up in that one. Both him an Truss are completely at it, heavily filtered and photoshopped.

Mind you its better than Johnson running montages, who must be the most unfit "supposed" regular runner I know. Guy looks like one of those people who turn up to parkrun every two weeks and wonders why they aren't getting any fitter.

He's under fire for a shite "spring statement" just when everyone needed some assistance. The photo stuff just add to the air of how out opf touch he his by pretending he is, with a 'relatable car'.

Also worth remembering how fuel price is broken down. Sure Rishi could have certainly cut more than 5p per litre given how much the treasury take and the price per litre is going up because of the increase in wholesale price of Crude oil.

The VAT he won't do anything about as it's on the fuel duty.

So that's a yes then?

I think you are posing the question in a way that makes the power dynamic exclusively between the couple. When in reality it is a third party telling a family that the way they are operating in not ethical. It is then up to the family to sort out how to solve the dilemma.

Makes you wonder what is going to make up the short fall when we are all driving electric cars
