It shouldn't come as a shock given that we all, I think, understand just how catastrophically unprofessional and awful the Home Secretary is. But still, this court case is worth noting, given that Patel appears to have:
- instituted an unlawful policy of blanket confiscation of the phones of everyone taken off small boats travelling from France.
- required those whose phones were taken to provide their PIN to unlock the phone under threat of legal prosecution if they didn't, though they would not in fact be breaking any law, so Home Office officials were lying to those affected as well as threatening them.
- lied about the existence of this policy up to and even at the beginning of judicial proceedings, even to the judge.

In any sane world she would be fired and recalled, and indeed prosecuted for this. But in any sane world Priti Patel wouldn't be an MP, let alone a government minister.
