A Political Thread pt. 2

Honestly, Yes Minister has to be one of the best comedies of all time. Depressingly though it's still so relevant and shows when it comes to those in power, very little has changed.

Yes Minster and The Thick of It are some the best cutting comedies that get to heart of politics and the machineries of Westminster there's been.

North Korean security forces have reportedly been going around hunting down men with leather coats and liberating the jackets. Apparently it is now Jong-un's signature look and nobody is allowed to replicate it.

Imagine if they did that in the UK with Boris's signature style? I wouldn't be able to step out looking in ill fitting clothes, with hair thats never seen a comb and generally looking like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. Actually, it might be the making of me. :p

It shouldn't come as a shock given that we all, I think, understand just how catastrophically unprofessional and awful the Home Secretary is. But still, this court case is worth noting, given that Patel appears to have:
- instituted an unlawful policy of blanket confiscation of the phones of everyone taken off small boats travelling from France.
- required those whose phones were taken to provide their PIN to unlock the phone under threat of legal prosecution if they didn't, though they would not in fact be breaking any law, so Home Office officials were lying to those affected as well as threatening them.
- lied about the existence of this policy up to and even at the beginning of judicial proceedings, even to the judge.

In any sane world she would be fired and recalled, and indeed prosecuted for this. But in any sane world Priti Patel wouldn't be an MP, let alone a government minister.

Remember that she's also been fired in the past and has a history of bullying staff and contacting Israeli Govt officials in an unofficial capacity without the UK Government's knowledge or consent. She should be nowhere near Government - not even a junior minister. She must have some serious filth on Boris.

When the principal requirement for a cabinet position is to make Boris look the better choice - I'm not sure blackmail material is required.

Police believe the UVF is behind a security alert that led to Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney being evacuated from a peace event in Belfast.

Mr Coveney was delivering a speech when he was ushered from the room following reports a van had been hijacked and driven to the venue on Friday.

A controlled explosion was carried out at the scene, and it was later declared a hoax.
