A Political Thread pt. 2

But Hancock's behaviour, in fact pretty much all questionable government behaviour should not?
I agree it should also absolutely be investigated as well. Don't want Hancock shagging on taxpayer money.

In terms of pressing national importance however, how CCTV footage (or hidden camera as some have suggested, though that doesn't seem to be credible) has been leaked is far more important imo. Not because of this situation, but because of future implications

I agree there to an extent. However I don't see it as far more important, especially when MoD documents are left at bus stops. Simply, there is clear evidence of a government avoiding all scrutiny while at the same time attacking or targeting groups/people who do try to scrutinise them. It is a clear authoritarian tactic and while it may not be to the extent of other countries, it certainly is a worrying trend, especially when you compare it to America under Trump, which Johnson has certainly echoed, if not mimicked.

Is this a bit like your rationale for wanting voter ID for a non existent voter fraud problem? It could be a massive issue in the future, right? We've got to maintain confidence in the system. The Tories really care about our democracy, isn't that the line?

This is a massive security risk I agree. Especially a government that cares little about Russian interference in our democracy and probably couldn't give 2 shits about the security of the nation outside of "hopefully
We don't look bad"

Yep exactly the same rationale - I want us to deal with these potential massive issues before they bite us all in the ass

Doubt it, the Johnson government has already waddled through more scandals and incompetence than most governments in recent history and the voters simply do not give a ****. Just keep blubbering away about Brexit and you have a sizeable chunk of the populace eating out of your hand.

Besides the vaccine rollout, which itself is covering for the absolute shambles of his response and the failed track and trace, what has the Johnson government actually achieved? He didn't achieve Brexit as a deal was already there that he then torpedoed and did not improve. He's like an inverse midas, everything he has touched in his entire career has turned to ****. Yet to see anyone point out anything about Johnson that makes him a worthwhile PM other than "oh he's a bit funny and he supports Britain".

More on Hancock

So he regularly used his private email for government business, including the awarding £37 billion contact for the failed test and trace app and most importantly the decision making process to send elderly people back to care homes which in almost all certainty led to avoidable deaths in care homes.

Now it gets worse, because from what I heard on LBC, freedom of information requests can be granted in regards to private email accounts, but it is apparently up to the individual to choose what information they release. Therefore the majority of the evidence about Hancock's conduct and decisions cannot be accessed barring some kind of police involvement I imagine. So here we have a former government minister who has been accused of mismanagement during the pandemic and cronyism when awarding contracts and on top he hasn't even followed basic government guidelines of using a government email account, which means he can hide the evidence of his wrong doing.

Also begs the question how many other ministers conduct government business using private email accounts or phones.

Should absolutely come down super hard on this kind of stuff. Whether it's pure laziness or intentional it's not ok.

Honestly would be surprised if he's competent enough to do anything nefarious and I think it's probably just him being an idiot / lazy.

Probably, but again it is more evidence of a government that conducts business away from public eyes.

On which, it takes a special kind of "special" to believe that the left dressed up as the far right, acted like the far right, egged on by their far right leader in order to storm the Capitol - AND refuse to allow an investigation into it.

Welsh language Paw Patrol gets more viewers.

Honestly I'm amazed at the drop off, not because I think that kind of "news" channel has no place in broadcasting but I thought I'm surprised just how many were just looking out of "curiosity"

I gave it a bash and just found it a poor halfway house. It is not professional enough as "news" but the parts and topics are too short to really work as an opinion piece. I didn't see Andrew Neils segment but the bit I did see just wasn't captivating or informative.
