In a letter to the PM he says the government "owe it to people who have sacrificed so much in this pandemic to be honest when we have let them down".

About the only good thing he has done. How he could not when he said last year that Neil Fergusson didn’t have a choice when he did exactly the same thing. He‘d lost all credibility And that was just for his indiscretion and not the blatant cronyism.

If ever there was an example of why democracies need an independent electoral commission capable of holding politicians to account, this is it. Imagine the lies the Tories can spread now Johnson has stripped it of power.

This could potentially cause some trouble within the government.

Up until now the government have had free reign to break rules and not resign. I always thought they had agreed that no one would resign because if no one resigned, or was fired, then they were all untouchable (so to speak).

It seems like Boris considered the episode closed, but it was Hancock who decided it.

Now when the next Tory rule breaking occurs, that individual would surely have to go as well?

We've said it at home since the start they'd pin it all on him and move him at some point matter of when not if.

Honestly. It's the wider implication that people are missing. This government clearly wants zero scrutiny of it's own behaviour and anyone who tries to hold them to account is to be investigated. It was the same during the Brexit negotiations when the Tory rebels who wanted to properly scrutinise the deal were branded 'traitors'. More and more this government is eroding democratic practices that are meant to ensure that they don't abuse the power they have been given.
