[2022 Six Nations] Scotland vs England (05/02/22)

Agree with that with the exception of definitely having a lock on the bench (if we want two flankers then I'd go 6-2, as EJ doesn't like using back subs)

Selfishly would have Rodd involved as well, though with the death grip Mako had on the loosehead shirt for so many years Marler and Genge could probably do with as much game time as possible up until the RWC, to build continuity in the front row
Though Italy is the game to chop and change - plus Rodd gives us another carrying option if we persist with Simmonds
Simmonds to bench as hybrid reserve, could cover centre at a push if needed.

A few thoughts.

- LCD panicked. Unsurprising. I don't know what defensive system parks a hooker out wide in the defensive line. Was it 'cos they were wary of the power of VDM?
- That single event should not have cost England the match.
- The forwards provided more than enough possession and general dominance for the backs to kill Scotland off far earlier.
- Therefore, you need to examine your backs.
- Which starts at the quality of possession supplied from the half-backs to the outside backs.
- It was ****. Because Ben Youngs was far too slow.

Look how (finally) dropping Conor Murray completely turned things around for us. Thats not a bad side - it just needs one significant change. Then after a few games, the backline can be properly evaluated.

Snipped a bit. Youngs was awful and we had centres playing wings. A wombocombo for us to have no attack and to mess up in defence, regardless of how dominant we were in general play. Hobbled by selection. But what else is new.

Genuinely could not see any semblance of any sort of game plan other than Youngs passing to static 1 out forwards, rinse and repeat 3 or 4 times then kick. Jones claims he wants England to play heads up rugby but the number of overlaps we butcher through kicking is insane.

These players don't play like this at club level, this is all Jones. He has clearly learned absolutely **** all from last year.

The win over SA was probably a bad thing, in the long run, as it's cemented EJs methods despite our success in that game not being tied to the gameplan he's employed the past few years

Pretty much. None of the passes from a ruck went to runners, they all went to people on their heels. The **** are you meant to do with it. Woodfords 2nd XV do better than that

Don't worry chaps, we all know selection won't change. Look forward to another month of slow and uninspiring rugby from Youngs and co.

Jones has no problem throwing in young lads elsewhere in the team so why are England sticking with Youngs? It's weird. They have 2 young lads in the squad with very obvious potential. Surely if rebuild is the imperative blooding someone into a key position is a must.

The forwards didn't lose us the game today. Youngs was pedestrian and we had a back line of centres with confused ideas of what we were meant to do

First back to back losses to Scotland since 1984. (Not really noteworthy as 1983 was the last time we lost in Twickenham before last year). Still never happened in my lifetime until today.
And??

Exactly how I see it, England forwards did everything they could do. Absolutely dominated most parts of the game. Surprising that the backs couldn't do more. Malins, Stewart, Marchant, Slade, Smith looks formidable on paper. Youngs decision making was so poor.

If Jones can't see what a liability Youngs is now then I go from seriously questioning his competence to deny its existence.

Felt that the patterns from the AI were missing, and they were all to easy to read. Also, many weren't on the same page and were isolated too often.

Jones is done, he's not some great tactic or genius. He's got no idea how to fix our problems and his tactics and random selections seems to cause most of them.

But at least he tried to bring on jack Nowell on the 80th minute being the most useless sub tactic officially ever know. Just what's the point.

To be honest I'd love to see England appoint Andy Farrell, but doubt he'd leave Ireland at the moment even though he's English. We might have to wait until after the World Cup to try and tempt him away.

I think this Ireland side could seriously embarrass England at Twickenham.
