[2022 Six Nations] Scotland vs England (05/02/22)

For me the issue is the coach. He consistently picks players out of position. The tactics seem aimless and confusing. He persists with players who don't perform well. His use of substitutions is just ridiculous. Apparently he is some insightful rugby genius according to the players, but yet here we are again losing.

Jones is clearly not getting the most out of the players and for some of them is actually holding them back with his tactics and selections.

Am suitably boozed at this point but here's what I'd like to see next week:
1. Marler - just better than Genge on the international stage IMO. More reliable but also less attacking prowess.
2. LCD - obviously had a big stinker today but never should have been in that position and as long as he's not in that position again I imagine he'll be fine.
3. Sinckler - really not a fan of his but… who else? I thought Stuart had a good game today but he's also had some stinkers in the past so he doesn't have quite enough credit to displace Kyle yet.
4. Itoje
5. Isiekwe - had a really strong game today IMO.
6. Chessum - again, as @Leinsterman has (NotTigsMan) already said we lacked a big hitter today. Against Italy I'd like to see Chessum get a chance to strut his stuff.
7. Curry
8. Barbeary - should be 8 going forward IMO. So physical, so dangerous, better than Simmonds and Dombrandt at being an 8.
9. Uhhhhhh… Quirke? Youngs is recognisably trash, Randall is a real live wire but not great at actually being a 9. Quirke has the highest ceiling IMO so let's invest in him.
10. Smith
12. Atkinson - felt we lacked a carrier in the back line today who could straighten it up and take it to the line. Atkinson is not amazing but he's the best we have at that.
13. Slade
11. Ollie Hassell-Collins - fast, powerful, dangerous, makes defences worry. Exactly what we need right now IMO.
14. Marchant - didn't have his best game today but I still back him. With a real winger like OHC in the side I feel his place is more justified.
15. Steward
16. George
17. Genge
18. Stuart
19. Ludlam (Chessum covering lock)
20. Simmonds/Dombrandt (controversially don't really think either has much of a future in an England shirt so, whoever)
21. Randall
22. Furbank (I don't like him but I also don't like having a sub who only covers 1 position (Ford) especially when we have a very good player in that position)
23. Nowell

WC not looking great when we're thinking about teams like that really.

Agree with that with the exception of definitely having a lock on the bench (if we want two flankers then I'd go 6-2, as EJ doesn't like using back subs)

Selfishly would have Rodd involved as well, though with the death grip Mako had on the loosehead shirt for so many years Marler and Genge could probably do with as much game time as possible up until the RWC, to build continuity in the front row
Though Italy is the game to chop and change - plus Rodd gives us another carrying option if we persist with Simmonds

What have we got left before the RWC? 9 6N games, 4AIs plus whatever we play as warm-ups for the RWC itself. It's not a lot of time to give players much experience...

Still no idea who to play at SH, back row, lock, midfield, wingers.

Yeah I don't like not having a lock on the bench but assuming Hill and Lawes are out (which I think they are?), then Ewels is the only one left in which case… nah.

Imagine sitting there in the Monday review/watching the game as Randall or Quirke respectively and thinking "apparently my standard of play is lower than this"

Almost put my foot through the screen at the start of the second half when the ref was telling Youngs to use it and he seemed to dither for an eternity. Says it all that I actually wanted him to get pinged.

How are we supposed to have a attacking play when the 9 slows the ball long enough for the defence to dig bloody trenches, but dont worry i'm sure eddie the bottler will keep on picking him...

First back to back losses to Scotland since 1984. (Not really noteworthy as 1983 was the last time we lost in Twickenham before last year). Still never happened in my lifetime until today.

Just seen post match interview with Jones, looked like he was close to tears or something... odd. Regardless of selection and coaching I hope he's okay.

1. Marler - you start your best scrummagers.
2. LCD - you have ammends to be made.
3. Sinckler - our best all-round prop.
4. Isiekwe - shirt's his until we have a better option.
5. Itoje.
6. Chessum - Ludlum went well enough, but he just didn't work well with Curry, who's a shoe-in.
7. Curry (c).
8. Simmonds - if we're going for him over Dombrandt then so be it. Needs some raw power elsewhere in the back row though, so again, Ludlam's out. Oh for a fit Barbeary!

9. Quirke - he's already better than YBY.
10. Smith - needs time to get his feet under the table.
11. Radwan / OHC - a real winger.
12. Slade - it's still his position of best fit, and he's starting to learn how to play there. He's got the advantage over Atkinson of actually being good enough to wear an England shirt on merit.
13. Marchant - f*** me, a balanced midfield? It'll never catch on.
14. Malins - he's well on the way to being everything Daly was supposed to be, except he does in on grass, not just paper.
15. Steward - may not be exciting, but there's something very comforting about having a rock at the back.

16. George, 17. Genge, 18. Stuart, 19. Ewels :(, 20. Ludlam (doesn't deserve to be dropped personally, but back row needs to be balanced)
21. Randall / JvP / Mitchell / Spencer / Carr-Smith / Leanne Riley 22. Ford (gotta have a specialist FH), 23. Daly
