Keep your filthy sheep loving trash off this site :p

Apparently Gatland wants to see how Sam Simmonds looks at centre in training camps
Nah, I txt him the other day telling him about my Beirne at 12 and Tipuric at 13 revelation and he's on board. Simmonds is being lined up on the wing.

I know this is just a bit of fun, but it seems a bit unfair to say that this beats Paul Thorburn's record given that he kicked his goal in the middle of a test match, not in conditions set up for long kicking.

It seems mad that Thorburn's record still stands, particularly that South Africa have been back in the test arena for plenty of time now. I know that sports science was a dirty word back when the record was set, but it would be interesting to know whether it was some sort of perfect storm of a tail wind and the ideal ball that brought this around. Maybe my memory is letting me down, but I remember Thorburn as a deadly kicker, but not necessarily one with massive range.

Yeh I don't think it counts officially as a WR either. A bit like 100m world record not counting if it was performed in training.

Still, I think Daly will either be starting or on the bench at least for the test matches, especially if scores are tight and a long range penalty is needed to win it.

Thorburn's kick was insane really. His kick pre-dated modern ball technology, so it was a heavy lump of a thing. It also pre-dated kicking tees, or even the pile of sand used in the 90's, so it was kicked from a divet in the ground! That must have made it tougher to hit the sweet-spot.

Not sure about tail wind though, may well have had it in his favour.

I'm not sure that a heavier ball is necessarily a bad thing.

Having just rewatched the video of this kick, another impressive thing is the how quickly he takes the kick. Unless the clip was edited, it takes him a shade over 30 seconds from the referee's whistle to striking the ball.

TIL he came closeish to playing for the LA Rams.

Move over Tipuric, Wales have got a new winger to play in the backrow

Awful technique, he should have shoved his head right into the props arse like every winger knows you are supposed to do in a scrum.

Thatll be 70 at altitude for the lions. This is why hes there

What would people's most exciting 15 be? WOL did some ******** one, I'd do something like this. I'm bored obviously.

Mako LCD Furlong
Itoje Beirne
Tipuric Watson
Faletau

Davies
Russell
Henshaw
Daly
Watson LRZ
Hogg

To be honest the backline scares me more than it excites me but it'd be interesting to roll the dice.

Surely if you're going purely for excitement value then Simmonds gets the nod over Faletau. Would also say Conan over Watson on the flank.

Yeah I did think Simmonds but I love watching Faletau play so just a personal thing. Simmonds is unproven at this level so would more fall into the scary box but would be exciting though, for sure.

I'm sure his boot is still prodigious, but I'm not sure I'd trust his pace of ability under a high ball these days! :D If you mean Daly, this is a significant part of the reason he's going, with his versatility also being a selling point and the fact that he's known to Gatland. I think I'm on record here as saying that I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him tour. In turn, if he performs reasonably, it wouldn't surprise me to see him shoehorned into the test team, particularly if Gatland decides to go for a 6/2 bench.
