[2020 Autumn Nations Cup] England vs Ireland (21/11/20)

Daly at 15. No.

Joseph at 14. No.

Slade at 12. No.

Binny. No.

Missed chance to give the reserve props a proper run. In their different ways both are now pushing really hard for a starting slot. Would have been good to see them given a chance to build on their good work against Georgia.

Apart from that, fine.

In a way I hope it ****** down and the Irish revert to type lobbing up garryowen after garryowen to expose our back 3 for the folly it is.

Wow is that a male model? Wait no it's English international rugby star Henry Slade.

Yeh Joseph on the wing makes me despair.

Good to see Maro and Big Joe in the engine room. Good pack.

The big irony is that that meme has a mask in it, something I'm guessing Slade is very against

What do you mean by this actually? I've never looked past his good looks and nearly almost as good as Ringrose ability.
He's.....a coronavirus sceptic.
Bunch of the exeter lads were sharing anti-lockdown stuff during the first lockdown, but Slade is still going with it now - I often see him cropping up on my timeline liking "plandemic" tweets

Can I shock you all. I love Daly at 15

I'm not upset with the pack. Personally I'd have kept the front row exactly the same as the Georgia match. I like Stuart and Genge and I'd have given them another go, but I'm not that fussed. Mako isn't the best scrummager but with a heavier second row than we've seen a lot of the time I think he'll be fine. Second row I like, I'm a big fan of Launchbury and glad to see Itoje back where he belongs. In the back row, I would like to see someone else at 8 but at his best BV is one of the best in the world. As has been said before he does tend to get better the more he plays, so hopefully that'll be the case here. Long term I still want to see a more dynamic 8 however.

Disappointed but not at all surprised we're seeing Youngs and Farrell at 9 and 10. Given Ford is probably not considered fit enough with sufficient match practice to start, I'd have liked to see Robson. Hopefully he'll continue doing well when he comes on and may get to the point of displacing Youngs at some point.

Slade and Lawrence also not a surprise. Unfortunately we're blessed with a lot of good 13's but very few 12's. Maybe if Slade continues to play there he'll get better at it, but he is always so much better at 13. Be interesting to see if Lawrence gets more opportunity to actually play rather than spectate (what's the weather due to be?).

Back 3, again slightly disappointed but not surprised. I'd like to see Thorley given a decent go, and I prefer Daly at wing rather than full back, but I'm not upset about it.

Overall, I don't mind the team. It's the game plan I'm more interested in. I can accept that we are going to kick more than other teams, but what I want to see is it being chosen as the best option given the situation, rather than kicking regardless of what is actually happening on the field.

Wrong tense. He was, but hasn't been for a long time. More to the point the game has moved on and while he's still a big powerful bloke he's no longer a giant among those around him negating much of his effectiveness.

Jones seldom gets the balance right between off the wall and blind loyalty.

Maybe he reasons that "balance" is by having as much off the wall as blind loyalty?

I think there are two approaches to Binny and his loss of love of rugby. One, give him some time off to recoup, get better and challenge for his spot again, or two, reassure him he's the starting 8, pick him regardless and hope he relaxes, ditches some stress and starts to pick up his performance.

Hopefully Jones is doing the second. If he doesn't improve over the autumn and he's picked for the Six Nations next year then I'll accept I've not even the slightest idea of what happens in Jones' head.
