I think there are two approaches to Binny and his loss of love of rugby. One, give him some time off to recoup, get better and challenge for his spot again, or two, reassure him he's the starting 8, pick him regardless and hope he relaxes, ditches some stress and starts to pick up his performance.

Hopefully Jones is doing the second. If he doesn't improve over the autumn and he's picked for the Six Nations next year then I'll accept I've not even the slightest idea of what happens in Jones' head.

Billy is not in great form and I agree that the 'stick is overdue', but he's also not been as awful as you're making out, nor are the alternatives quite as obvious as you seem to think.

As a Quins ST holder, I can tell you with some confidence that Dombrandt is not ready for a starting role in test rugby. He has loads of talent but is still adapting to professional rugby and learning how to be more influential across 80mins rather than his highlight reel moments. It's a fine line between taking the instinctiveness out of his game and improving his work rate and effectiveness in defence.

Mercer is a far more complete player IMO, but it's not surprising that he's not involved given he didn't really feature for Bath in the second half of the season.

Similarly, I don't think anyone would be disappointed to see Simmonds, but I can understand why he isn't there.

That's crazy. I saw Genge at a Tesco in London last year. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a dick and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"
I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.....

Then I bounced his face off the ground like a basketball around 100 times.

I can't say I love him there but he gets away with it.
Every single game he starts at 15 I think that the opposition will finally expose him with well placed high balls but it just doesn't seem to happen. And he's a good attacking threat with a massive boot so I can see why Jones persists.

More generally, it's all been covered really in terms of the side.

I must be the only Englishman who's concerned that Ireland will turn it on today. Jones has gone out of his way to **** them off and I can't help but feel they've got a big game in them. Hope it's not today but my gut's grumbling that it could be.
