[2020 Autumn Nations Cup] England vs France (06/12/20)

Fantastic showing by France; amazing level of depth in their squad. Really excited to see them in the Six Nations. About time now for England to have a changed starting 15. To start playing attacking rugby.

Who are you suggesting is picked? Do you not think May, Watson and Daly are 'attacking' players?

I don't think it's selection. I think it's tactics ...

Some changes certainly but the lack of attacking play is not a direct result of the personnel more the game plan.

I'm not 'really worried', but I am definitely cautious.

There's not much experience in the French side but plenty of skill and lots of pace. Add in the fact that they have nothing to lose and I think there's potential for an upset.

Our defence has had plenty of praise, but I don't think it's been given any serious examination. Ireland were predictable and just ran in to us and Wales showed pretty much 0 in attack. If the French backs click, I think they could cause our defence some problems.

I think England will still take it, but I don't think it will be comfortable. I'm expecting France to really show up.
Pretty much as I expected TBH. I thought France would play well and I thought we would make very hard work of it. So it proved.

Nah it's selection 9 was a marked difference, Farrell is well shot he's had a **** Autumn and this game was diabolical. I'm also back to unconvinced by Slade.

Tidy those places up and I think we'll get somewhere.

Would be interested in seeing Malins start at 15

Think Watson looks off pace, but probably just because he's been off/on injured. Shame we didn't use the opportunity to look at Thorley (or any other winger)

Come the 6N, I would like to see Malins and a change in the midfield.

The pack doesn't need changing. All this talk about a weak french side, they have a large pool of players like England. If we had stuck out 2nd/3rd string team, then it would have been combative.

England very good at rolling mauls, so England kick to the corner only once...

Seemed like they started of negatively and just sunk from there

We were s**t.

And we still won.

Good times. :)

Swing low!

More or less. I thought after the inital French burst of energy in the first half an hour, when they were brilliant, I thought England were actually well on top for most of the game but routinely failed to turn it into points, predominantly from the tee.

Strange game. Owen Farrell and a handful of others have had a really poor autumn, but our pack has stood up and made it work.

I was impressed with Simpson and Mallins. The latter isn't a big guy but was taking the ball into contact at pace, coupled with quicker service it at least asks more questions of defences.

Eddie's lack of a plan B when they aren't dominating a side physically will see them beaten sooner rather than later.

Still some good performances, Should have been much more comfortable if Farrell had took some of those fairly regulation kicks

That was an absolutely dire performance from England. I'm almost disappointed that we won that because Eddie will now keep picking this team and we will eventually start losing. I don't care that we've won 8 games in a row, the only direction we're going in is the direction which ends with mediocrity. the Six Nations game against a full-strength France will be an absolute bloodbath.

Eddie claimed he was going to rest a bunch of players this autumn, and try out a bunch of new ones.
He really should have.

I think EJ really needs to consider if Farrell is the right man to lead. He's always seemed whiny when talking to the ref. When England struggle he doesn't seem to have any ideas of how to motivate the team. He's a liability in defence. His place kicking has dropped significantly and he's not much better kicking from hand or with ball in hand. Often makes the wrong choice when attacking.

England, Ireland, Scotland all have whiny as **** captains, I would prefer to see it given to Itoje.
