[2016 Rugby Championship] South Africa v Argentina (20/08/2016)

Ah Jacque Fourie... how we miss you.

I have mixed feelings about the team, feel sorry for Jaco Kriel but I suppose Oupa isn't too bad. Doubt he'll let us down. With Goosen and Combrinck at the back we'll definitely be able to get out of dodge, Habana's boot isn't too shabby either.

This makes me slightly more happy. Doubt we'll see a lot of pretty backline moves but it's going depend on our pack.

Can someone enlighten me on whether Flouw's form have returned? JdJ? Also how is Koch doing? Happy to see the ginger there, curious to see what he can do.

If they rattle our forwards, close game, otherwise I think we'll take it by 10 - 14.

Apart from Mohoje and Mbonambi and De Jongh, I'm very happy with the team. I would have replaced those 3 with Malcolm Marx, Jannes Kirsten and Rohan Janse van Rensburg.

But yeah, the question is how on form all the guys are and if we will come out firing. I have to say from what I've seen so far, it seems like AC is very happy with the conditioning of the players, but we won't definitely know until they run out on the field.

AC's motivation behind Goosen over Kriel at 15 is that Goosen's right foot provides the balance in our other wise lefties.

Flo has always been a standout player for Bath, but struggled to reach the same heights for the Boks because I think as team we were struggling being new and all.
Koch was a standout performer for the Stormers after the June break. He seems to have taken it up a notch.
De Jongh was away on 7s duty and thus unavailable for Boks during June tests. I think AC promised him a spot now at the expense of Rohan unfortunately. But there is no doubt of the effort De Jongh puts on the field.

Based on this team selection and the squad as a whole, AC has gone for continuity barring the few injury enforced changes. However, I think it would've been best to have Malcolm Marx make his debut at home rather than in Argentina.

Awesome.

We haven't had a perfect backline (according to us) since that one game in 2009 (F.Steyn, JP, Fourie, JdV, Habs, M.Steyn, Fourie) and I don't think we will again soon. At least we can still smash the Argies and Aus if we fire. Can't wait for the game just hope it's a good one.

EDIT:

I don't mind who plays all that much actually, as long as we don't see that bullshyte where the players look disinterested and lacking energy or motivation to do anything properly. Chasing half heartedly, not hitting the rucks hard... that is much worse than the quotas. Hate seeing that mindset on the field. (1st test vs Ireland, first half of 2nd test vs Ireland, some of the third test vs Ireland, Japan in RWC, Argentina last year...)

EDIT EDIT:

And having a **** weak gameplan with no tactic or strategic / clever thinking.

Worse than quotas and selections.

EDIT EDIT EDIT:

Man, now I'm ****** about that again, I don't mind wtf plays as long as they give their everything.

Nevermind Mohoje. Mbonambi, Page and De Jongh on the bench... when between Marx, Hougaard and Janse van Rensburg 2 of the 3 should actually be starting IMO. Quotas plain and simple. Lets just hope Strauss, De Klerk and co. don't get injured and we actually need someone to come of the bench.

How do we expect the players to give more than 100% knowing the jesey has been made cheap with quotas and we don't have our absolute best team playing? Players tend to play better the better the team and team dynamics. That line-up that went down to Japan was also a compromized one and no wonder.

Yes I understand harping on about quotas is pointless but sying nothing won't help the situation and its not as if quotas aren't pointless themselves.

I can't wait for the day that a black player actually stands up and give the jersey back and says I shouldn't be here, someone else should play in place...

You're right *sigh* maybe one day the only thing we'll have to argue about is whether Pollard or Goosen should start..

One day...

i dont see us winning this or even comming close. i hope the knock on, easy penalty, soft defence and the unforced errors can stop. if they don`t we are down for more than 20.

Very pleased to see Glen Jackson in the middle. Best ref in the southern hemisphere at the moment in my opinion.

An important aspect in this fixture has always been scoreboard pressure. Where the Boks have always backed themselves and proven to get out of trouble in the past (barring last year's blip), the Pumas have always succumbed to that kind of challenge.

Hopefully our forwards can dominate in the tight exchanges early so that our backs can also get into the game soon enough. But would also like to see the Pumas having a go at our defense.

Am I a Lions fan? First and foremost a fan of SWD - but the amateur SWD who wer krap. I loved them. But I support most of the SA teams. This year the Lions more for obvious reasons.

That has happened. That Golden Lions dude that played hooker. Commentator now. Owen Nkumane. At the end of his career they picked him for the Boks and he knew he was not on standard (he was basically one foot in retirement then) and he declined on that ground. I have immense respect for him.

Goosen. He is much faster than Pollard. Lack of speed is Pollards weakness.

Thanx Cruz!

I've added the Argentine team to the OP.

This weekend is going to be awesome!

Just hope the Proteas can start the weekend well against the Kiwis this morning. Then I hope Caster wins the gold medal tonight, and then tomorrow is my brother's bachelors party and then the Bokke!!

I just love Leguizamon,he's an animal. I refuse to believe that Arg will be bad. We will have to play out of our skins to win. Somewhere they will click again and then we will bleed. Anyone forgot what happened the last time the two teams played in Durbs???LOL....

PS: Sounds if I think they play in Durbs....NOT, just referring to that game.

I have no idea what you're talking about, we've never lost to Argentina or Ireland at home, and any talk to the contrary is vile slander.

I feel ashamed.....thank you for correcting my potty talk.....

We lost 27-0 to France.... at home.
I think expectations are pretty low from our side. Then again, that's when we generally shine.

We thought we would win the Durbs game easy...look what happened. As I mentioned, SOMETIME they will come together as a team again. I hope it's NOT against us...

Honestly, the game I fear playing the most in international rugby is playing Argentina away. When we play Australia or New Zealand away there is always an expectation it will go either way. Against Argentina there is a huge expectation within South Africa that we should win and every single time we play there it is incredibly tight and we either draw or just creep a win. So much stress has been added to my life thanks to those clashes. :D
