[2015 RWC] Pool A: England vs. Australia (03/10/2015)

@Maverick1987 I tend to find it only being the online Welsh all the real ones I know I fine.

To be honest I'm a humble person , bit I will express my opinion if needed , as I said if England won Saturday in that game I wouldn't of blamed anything that includes officiating and luck, I would of analysed our performance to see where we went wrong but ultimately would of said well done England .

You and me both. Feels horrible to criticise players like this to be honest, they're doing their best. But the truth of what Jones says is self evident. It's not just another bit of Aussie mud slinging.

Totally agree and was saying as much in the pub Saturday night. Who's most likely to be part of any new look back row? Ewers is the stand out performer at 6 so far and Itoje looks like he's becoming more of a back-rower. Is Clifford playing more at 6 nowadays or still an 8? Was impressed with Wallace at Quins last season but Kvesic really needs to be given an opportunity.

Aussies sticking the knife in as usual. Remember all this before the 2007 game. All the old aussies came out of the woodwork laughing at England because they lost to SA. No world class players, players were old in the last WC, selection was poor, vickery was a crap captain. All ended in their defeat.

As mad as I am with SL and co at the minute this stuff really does makes me want to get behind them and stuff the gobby *****.

Oh and come on Fiji

England do it too - Austin Healy's gob is constantly yammering away.

TBH I don't take much heed in anything an Australian has to say in the press in the build up to Aus V Eng match in any sport.

Robshaw is he the greatest 7 ever? Nope even I'm not that mad. However there's nothing to say he can't be a great workhorse like Richard Hill if he were moved to blindside.

Maybe on that small Island of yours, but you guys colossally fail at every sport on an International scale. From Football, Cricket, Rugby, you have never been dominant in anything for any length of time. Maybe a World Cup here or there, but overall, poor return.

New zealand dominate beacuse they breathe Rugby, if it was the case in England i'd expect the same.

England compete over a broad range sports at a high level, and are consistently up there albeit not the best. The same cannot be said of many other nations.

Above horizontal ? Yes
Did he drop him ? Yes
Is it a red card ? Yes

Even Gats and Sam said it was .....

You're one of those Welsh fans that blames the ref for everything aren't you ? Probably think Hogg deserved to get sent off vs Wales but Sam definitely shouldn't have

I can't believe that this still gets dredged up. At the time I thought it was harsh. During the rest of the day, I spent time reading the law book and refs forum and was talked around to thinking it was the correct call. Four years down the track, I look at that photo and can't believe that there was ever any doubt in my mind!

Well no one seems happy with the selection however here's a best case scenario. No one gets injured and we keep the ball tight with a powerful and pumped up pack smashing them in the scrum and line out. Faz does some deft kicking which is beautifully chased by our pretty handy back three who keep Aus on the back foot and might even run in a cheeky try. Australia tire as the game draws on and we each take points off each other through various penalties. Now tired Aus defence starts to fail and then you bring on slammin Sam who smashed the granny out of his opposite number, creates holes, JJ and back three capitalise and run in two more try's to see off the Aussies with 10 to go.

How's that for a plan ;-)

A quite brilliant plan.

Ben Youngs and JJ to get injured 20 mins in.

Mike Brown injured @ 45 mins

Play the rest of the game with this backline

9) Wigglesworth
10) Ford
11) May
12) Faz
13) Barritt
14) Burgess
15) Watson

Not much of a plan!

A few peoole are talking about keeping it tight. I'm not sure how we think that's going to solve anything?

We play a tight game plan - that's different. We kick well, chase well, execute set-piece well, make the right decisions; and yeah, don't fling the ball around unncessarily.

We don't have the kind of pack to keep it tight Our carrying isn't that good, breakdown work isn't that good.. We just need to focus on doing the basics well enough, building the phases in whatever way is best - whether that's keeeping it tight or going from one touchline to the other.

Attwood already is.

I forgot Kruis was in instead of Attwood to.

Ah crap yeah, i think I'd repressed that!
Makes me feel better about Kruis being on the bench though, he'll graft in the tight more than any of our other forwards.

True he can cover 6 as well and would prob do a better job at trying to stop pocock and Hooper than most of the pack.

The iRB directive about red-carding pretty much anything near a spear tackle seems extreme. Even if we uphold the letter of that law, there is always going to be debate over the classification of Warburton's tackle between these two options:
"-The lifted player is dropped to the ground from a height with no regard to the
player’s safety. A red card should be issued for this type of tackle.

-For all other types of dangerous lifting tackles, it may be considered a penalty
or yellow card is sufficient"

Warburton seemed to let go of Clerc, but he brought him most of the way down, and had he not released I feel would have put unnecessary force driving through Clerc's upper-back/neck. It seemed to be an attempt to pull out. I would definitely have classed this as 'all other types of dangerous lifting tackles' and given a yellow card.

We also have to question whether an Irish referee with French connection was the right call for this match? You would have Nigel Owens refereeing a Welsh match at a World Cup, JMO .

Well hope you all enjoy Saturday.

I won't watching us go out which seems inevitable at this point.

Seriously please drop it, a) its not relevant to this thread and b) it was ages ago

All I read was "ifs" and "not the best".

Excuses, self entitlement and puzzling arrogance is witnessed in a lot of English supporters and sport. Never understood it.

Have some of the Aussies been talking smack in the media?
Who was it and what did they say?
Thats a really silly action to take, all it's going to do is wind up the Pommy forwards and when they're getting tired during the game, they will remember those taunts and it will give them a fire in their bellies to keep the intensity for longer than they might have managed.
I know when the press gets on the AB's case they use it to drive them harder for longer during tough games as they remember that smack talk and they are damn sure the mouths that uttered them will be forced to eat them.
Homourous jibes and banter is always welcome but out and out smack talk is just gonna be grist for the English forwards to mill and they don't need any motivation as their tournament now enters the knockout stages from here on forward.
So who has been gobbling off among the Aussies?

God your dull. Do you only come on this thread to moan about the English? You dislike us so much but still visit all the time? Get a life.
