[2015 RWC] Final: New Zealand vs. Australia (31/10/2015)

Coca-Cola and lollies? I'm talking to a 12 year old... I should have known I suppose given your comments..

Alright, that's me done for tonight.

I went to the same high-school as McCaw anyway mate, unless you think he's a posh hyper-sensitive sheltered boy to?

fair call. As a fiercly proud AB supporter i find some of these AB fans comments embarrasing

Frankly i rate the aussie coaching team higher than the AB coaching staff. They are far more progressive and inventive in my mind. Our advantage is we have more depth in the 30 man squad.
Any kiwi who writes of the aussies has a very short memory, and yes, i know what the stats say on our history. however...

Really? I find you embarrassing. Making a claim like that after what the team has achieved and on the eve of a consecutive final, please hand in your passport and citizenship and jump the ditch mate.

He is, just like the rest of the toffs in the ABs.

Mate, the only Toffs in rugby is you lot, maybe next RWC Prince Charles should join your royal entourage as well.

Hahaha, funny joke!
Everyone knows that the All Blacks are the posh boys of world rugby. All born with silver spoons in their mouths, and trust funds for days.

This is true actually, Justin Marshall came from Gore, which is basically the Mayfair of New Zealand.

Does anyone know if Australia will go to No1 in the world if they win, it's trivial in comparison to winning the cup but they have never been ranked number 1 so it's a significant milestone.

I have done the maths on this.

Whatever happens this weekend, NZ and Australia will remain the top two

If Australia wins, they will go to #1
If NZ wins they will remain No. 1

The other two are not so clear cut. Currently South Africa are #3, Argentina #4

If South Africa wins they will remain #3 and Argentina will drop to #5 behind Wales
If Argentina wins by 15 or under, they will go to #3, and South Africa will drop to #4 behind them
If Argentina wins by over 15, they will go to #3, and South Africa will drop to #5 behind Wales

In all scenarios, a draw after 80 minutes would leave them unchanged (a win in extra time still counts as a draw for the purposes of World Rankings)

Looks like a few people arent dealing with the stress of the World Cup very well. Any chance some of you could re-engage with you brains and start posting with a bit of substance again? I hate to say it but this forum is becoming a waste of time. I could go down to my local kindy and get better insights on the final.

Aussie will be a little bit tired, they have played the tougher games and they have one day less to recover.
The AB's are over wrought with the concept of reaching a second final in a row and possibly winning it, unless they choke of course.
Both teams will play it safe and it will be frightfully dull but intense affair and the Wallabies will knick it with a late score after being behind all game.
The population of Kiwis around the world will halve from mass suicides, and nobody will care.

I think the advantage of that extra day is perhaps being underestimated by some. Not only do we have an extra day but I think the effort OZ had to put in against Argentina was quite a bit more than what we did (physically anyway). If that extra rest is worth a couple points, or equates to a couple extra minutes at the end of each half where the ABs are fitter than the Ozzies then that alone could be the difference.

The other thing that I think hasnt been talked about enough is the possible absence (or lack of form/fitness) of Folau. People have said that he is not that crucial to the Ozzies, and perhaps in general he is not, although I would argue that when he is on form he is hands down their best attacking force. But I think in this game his aerial skills will be really improtnant to counter Ben Smith. I dont see Smith having a problem out-jumping Beale for the high ball, but Folau at his best is the best jumper in world rugby. If he is not 100% or better still out of the game entirely, there is a big advantage to the ABs right there.

Advantage All Blacks: Extra day gives edge over Wallabies in Rugby World Cup final

To be honest I think a lot of us will just bite the bullet and congratulate the Australian team and David Pocock if they win with such a small amount of resources. People will hail Cheika a genius, but he's not really, he's just inherited a great loose forward trio and played them at the same time and accommodated them appropriately. To be fair, he's a decent coach and getting in the Argentinian scrummager was a good touch but the real genius is Pocock, the guy is an athlete in a half, has the best technique I've seen and great vision, put him in any of the other top 8 sides in the world and you've got a finalist.

I think that New Zealand will win, as all round they are the stronger team, and they know how to win.

However, as usual with all rugby matches, much will depend on the ref. What Nigel concentrates on, and how much interference from assistants.

I hope both teams will play the best rugby they are capable of, so that we may have a grand spectacle to finish the competition.

Good Luck to all! :violin: (because I'm learning to play the violin!)

I think the benefit of an extra days rest will be noticed in the last 10-15 mins of the next game, legs are aching, little bumps and bruises are flaring up and cramp starting to set in.

McCaw nailed it in an article he wrote about how he believes in fitness and how it wins the tight games, not just in physical contests but also that mental decision making. He believes strength gained in gym work helps in the 1st 20-40 minutes, but after that is meaning very little and fitness always takes over.

I believe we are fitter than Aus and the extra day will help with the body, maybe only be worth 3 points but that could be enough.

Which is the very reason I think we will win. OZ have to figure out how to shut the whole AB team down, the reality is all the ABs need to figure out what to do is shut down Pocock. There are pretty basic tactics as to how to do that. We will run straight at him and committ him to the tackle as much as possible, we will ****le at him in the rucks holding him down and wrestling with him at every opportunity, and every time he hits a ruck we will commit an extra player and hit him as hard as we possibly can. The reason why this tends to work is it usually equates to 4 on 1 and the 1 guy eventually tires. This is all stuff that oppoision teams used to do, and still do to some extent, to McCaw. The advantage the ABs always have with that though is 7 other forwards who are pretty bloody fearsome as well.

I think Pocock by in large gets taken out of the game and then what do OZ have left after that? Not a heck of a lot I reckon! Dont get me wrong they are a well coached team that has improved out of site and have every chance of winning this match, but I say the ABs will shut Pocock down and in doing so shut down the match. It may not be the prettiest of games but it should be effective.

In Gore, having a Mullet is considered upper class and driving a Yute is like owning a Porche.

This sounds pretty spot on.

Yup, that Argentina match was BRUTAL. At the end, the Wallabies looked like they had just walked off the set of a Sam Peckinpah movie

The desperate are usually quite adept at clutching at straws!!
