[2014 TRC] Australia v New Zealand in Sydney (16/08/2014)

From where I was sitting he wasn't telling him to get it in ...

He did clearly signal the SH to put the ball in because the SH tapped the ball on his hooker's arm and then balked putting it in.

[TEXTAREA]LAW 20.6 (e) The scrum half must throw in the ball with a single forward movement. This means that
there must be no backward movement with the ball. The scrum half must not pretend to throw the ball.
Sanction: Free Kick[/TEXTAREA]

I don't need the law thanks. I know of its existence.

I could argue the scrum wasn't stable either but that's a debate for another day.

As I said he wasn't great for both sides to be honest. Not much can be done.

I can't say for certain without going back, but I'm 95% sure he did tell the scrum-half to put the ball in.
He indicated for the half back to put the ball in, yes. Surely he would only do that when the scrum is stable. If he felt it wasn't stable he should have pulled it up but he seemed okay with letting play continue. Anyway I feel there are more productive avenues of discussion about the game.

It should be a good game at Eden Park next week. I don't get people who say they didn't love that test match. It was great theatre. From a neutral perspective the silence at the end of the game was very cool to hear. Both teams really seemed to fell like they lost. Still though, if we win next week then we should be in prime position for the Championship.

Disappointing game in the end. Conditions played a part, but neither side really helped themselves. Well, onto next week and hoping the game at Eden Park to produce much better quality rugby.

Australia would have won the game if they picked a bloody winger and not a pair of centres without the understanding or instinct for how to finish. Pat McCabe's bombed chance was 100% down to him not being a winger, so only having the base instinct that he has to dive, while Julian Savea opposite him was a winger- He'd know how to finish that, and, as such, how to defend it. A good winger could then step past this tackle attempt, could transfer the ball, could dip a shoulder... Could generally be an adept finisher. A Savea, a Cuthbert, a Habana, a Bowe, even an Ashton would have scored that try. Hopefully McKenzie learns his bloody lesson and picks a winger next week.

Well disappointed not to win obviously.

I didn't love the refereeing, but we have more important things to worry about than that.

Like I said last test, Fekitoa isn't ready to be a starting centre. He has a lot of power and pace, but just doesn't have great passing or decision making. I think Wyatt Crockett was a bit unlucky, but once again another poor decision puts the All Blacks under huge pressure. I have no doubt that if we managed to keep 15 men on the field most of that game we would have won. Nonu had another game of doing very little. Made one nice tackle to put a guy out in our 22, but other than that I can't remember him looking dangerous at all.

Leke Peyper, you had a job to give SA a chance in this comp and u pulled it off...

Aussies were ahead of the kicker on every restart!!! Everyone!!!

AB got no momentum in this game bcuz of the refs calls...

hahahahaha
Nice one.

Jeez For once the All blacks have been in the other end of the penalty count and they are whining like little girls..ahahaha. Get over it, see you in Auckland.

Who would you play in the center?

Ahhh yes, there's the gracious Australian sporting personality in evidence again.
Well you are right about one element... seeing you in Auckland ;-)

Regarding referees, I still believe from years of watching International rugby that ALL the home sides tend to get the rub of the green and the teams visiting should be aware of that or suffer from it.

Well, he's not exactly a game changer but I think Ryan Crotty is probably a safer option in the sense he knows when to pass a ball. Obviously no where near as much potential as Fekitoa, but less of a liability in my opinion (as a centre who always backs himself without looking to set up others is a liability in international rugby in my opinion). Fortunately we may be lucky enough to see Smith and Kahui be available come next year (and I'm sure SBW will be in as well to play 12), so it's really a race against time for Fekitoa to get some game awareness.

I do like Fekitoa, he has a lot going for him and is awesome for the Highlanders, but going from Conrad Smith who always makes the right decisions, to Fekitoa who always makes the same decision (run it himself and then offload whether he should or not) is very frustrating to watch.

No way would I touch Ben Smith. He's staying at 15.

Yes see you there? You guys are stuffed now. No chance of winning the bled IMO. I can't see any positive out of this for the Wallabies.

No world record again, aye carumba
A draw, well I guess we're just not good enough.

Man alive, you wouldn't survive ten minutes supporting Wales.

The All Blacks still looked like the best team in the world- Australia threw more at it, and NZ just sucked it all up, in difficult conditions, and held out time after time. Neither team played well, but the Wallabies had more control, yet the All Blacks matched them.
