[2014 TRC] Australia v New Zealand in Sydney (16/08/2014)

Link and Beale squandered a wonderful opportunity against ABs. This result will make stronger ABs for next game. Disappointing

Australia were the better team. A lack of cutting edge and some questionable decisions at the end of the first half, in not taking the points, ultimately cost them.

Yeah, with Foley at the starting XV they would have won the game. Beale is the worst fly-half who I've seen in my life.

His penalty rolling forward and wasting a good opportunity was childish and kick that failed at the end of the first half was so easy.

Stop blaming the ref.

How many times did New Zealand threaten the Wallaby try line. 2, 3 times? Wheras Australia spent most that half camped on or around the 22. Not to mention they had a very strong case to claim and All Black was holding on when the ball was recovered on the AB try line.

Actually that should have been a penalty to NZ. The tackler never released Savea, so the call should have gone the way of the All Blacks.

The only reason for that is because of all the calls and yellows that went against the AB's this game was almost a complete mirror of the french quarter final in 2007 (without all the tries) Just a load of calls going one way that were total BS!!

AB's best side in the world but even they cant overcome this type of BS!!

The wallabies shouldn't take any positives out of this draw. All blacks don't get the world record but remain unbeaten.

I think the team will take a few positives. Massively dominated all the stats and had the better of the try scoring opportunities. Just couldn't capitalize.

It's not every day that teams even manage to give the kiwis a game that tough, so it'll give the boys a bit of confidence even if they couldn't quite win it.

They'll be the better team the day they beat us. They had more opportunities, sure but they didn't put them away. I still have never understood why a team which has lots of chances but doesn't finish them is considered to be the better team. Maybe they will be the better team next week? Who knows. They weren't this week though. Peyper was incredibly poor and just very inconsistent. I think we actually got the benefit of a lot of his calls but I still would prefer the law to be consistently applied. Too many dumb penalties for us and we would make a mistake every time we got up their end of the field. It's not easy to win a game like that.

Wouldnt go that far.

But think Foley was a the better choice. Beale, from my admittedly limited, watching of Super Rugby tries the miracle pass, kick too often. Maybe perhaps in his first few tests it came off more often than not

Ha you'd think the All Blacks had lost the way some of you are talking

Anyway, those so called "dubious" decisions could never have happened if the Wallabies weren't battering your defensive line for the majority of the 2nd Half. All Blacks had an excellent chance to close it down at the end, but mucked it up.
It happens boys, you can't win every game. Move on.

Both teams are probably gutted atm. It was poor conditions but really neither team looked like they were going to get over the line.

Bring on the fortress of Eden Park.

Those 'batterings' wouldn't have happened if you weren't handed tactical yellow cards... :| This reminds me of the Eddie Jones era.

No quibbles really. Terrible stop-start match in awful conditions, which in the end, were the great leveller, so I don't think this match tells us anything.

Both sides lucky to get the draw; this is not a match that will surviving long on the MySky hard disk.

As for the Barrett yellow card, I thought it was a bit of a crock. It looked like general play to me. There was no ruck, and the ball came loose from the tackle zone, so no gate and no offside.

The Wallabies gave away five consecutive penalties in the first have for not releasing/not rolling away that the tackle. Not even a sniff of a yellow card. Thing is, so did we, and none of the cards we got were for either of those two offences.

Yeah but the luxury we have with the All Blacks is that they do manage to almost win every game :D

I think ABs will be strengthened after this game, they were overcome by Aussies but even in these conditions they managed to not lose.

Reminds me of the June tests. England could beat ABs in the first games but they couldn't, although they were close. Then in the last game the ABs hit them.

Thought NZ were probably lucky to get away with a draw; neither team really looked like they were going to throw a killer blow, but being down to 14 men for a quarter of the game NZ did alright to salvage a draw. Bit gutted that they couldn't break the record, but probably a fair result.

I can almost see why people watch NRL... almost.

Foley at the starting XV and Beale as impact player at the second half was the perfect formula to beat ABs
