[2014 Mid-Year Tests] England

There are 2 things that make it very difficult for me to believe that.

1 - Wilson generally scrummages very straight.

2 - When the angle is that extreme it's basically always the LH - unless the TH's hips shift out... which they didn't.

Joesph's decision making and execution in defence was very, very good.
To be fair though... it's been standout all season.

His scrummaging was not 100% straight but playing prop and watching scrums really closely I think it was Wilson and him too blame. The same happened when Waller was on, Wilson just didn't seem to be pushing straight and the Bath scrum was going round the side and wheeling. Corbisiero was going in though as you can see his arm coming in close and pushing under neath Wilsons chest. I didn't mind the game though thought it was quite entertaining, Ford really didn't seem to cover himself in glory in the second half. Was it just me or did he look like he was injured ? Devoto ended up defending 10 in the set plays.

like i said you know more than me on this one mate, i was just under the impressions that corbisiero generally scrums as square as you'll get for a LH - that was the big thing in the Lions series wasn't it?

I just though that his hips were coming around when wilson folded in...but then i'm a 10 so i'll just stop talking there.

He looked like he was carrying a weak arm, but i wasn't sure if that was just me imagining it because of the discussions on here.

His kicking in the first half was amazing. Classic 40-20, it was an out and out Rugby League skill.

yeah, shut up !! You're just no.10. Corbisiero is no.1, how could you even try to beat those maths !

I might have another look again later - I don't tend to analyse these things as I watch them so I could be wrong.

My feeling as I watched it was that it was Corbs' doing.

Re: George Ford.

Oh look, this is happening again ;) Players fit enough to play club rugby but - shock horror! - they aren't able to play for their international team a couple of weeks later. I vaguely remember this being brought up earlier...

Reading on the Bath fans forum they reckon he wasn't fit to play tonight. Seems to coincide with the above assessment that he wasn't defending at 10/was avoiding contact.
Bath don't have the greatest depth at 10 (Henson, who hasn't played that much there this year, and then Devoto who is in the same boat) so it wouldn't surprise me if they played him at considerably under 100%.

I don't like the insinuations that we're purposefully not taking players (other than long term injured ones like Corbs), and I don't buy it.
Ford missing the tour is a huge blow and is damaging to our RWC chances as it's severely limiting his game time/cap count - the RFU may be many things but they're not stupid enough to limit the amount of experience our already very inexperienced side can get building up to the biggest World Cup since 1991.

Hey, English people, go to the Baabaa thread and post stuff about the match ! Are the lineups known yet ??
England's will probably be out midday on Thursday - we've not even announced all of our players in the England squad yet - I imagine the next (/final?) lot of players to be added will be be announced on Monday, which is when we can start guessing our side for the BaaBaas.

Aaaaaaaaaalllllsssssoooooooooo I'm hearing that Watson went off injured?
If so (apparently hamstring, so could be a week or two out, could be a month or two) I wonder who'll replace him in the squad? (I know he's not been named yet, but considering he was in the 6N squad I'd imagine it was pretty nailed on).

Shame if Watson misses out, but how good was Rokodoguni last night?

Has devoto overtaken eastmond for the 12 shirt at bath?

Unless eastmond is injured surely that's a bit of a sign for England?

Ford has said it's a horses for courses selection... but there could be something else going on, there has also been a suggestion he' also got a slight injury (nothing to worry about though).

Watson's injury looked very minor - much less serious than Mike Brown's for the sake of comparison.

Rokoduguni was immense !! He completely nulled any possible threat from George North, and looked so dangerous with ball in hand. He has to start with Yarde, after seeing what he did to North I would be pretty confident in him stopping and handling himself against Savea. I hadn't seen a lot of Watson before the game but I was impressed last night, he has some real gas and his ability to step of either foot shows that he does have international quality.

Heathcote's barely played all season - a shame as I also rate him very highly... he's good enough to start at most premiership clubs IMO.

Yeah, he's quality. I think I heard he may be heading to a Pro 12 club?

I'm guessing Bath players will now be called up to the England squad on Monday? I'm assuming none of them will play the BaBaas game though. What has happened to Eastmond recently?

When is Lancaster going to announce the Bath/Wasps contingent who are joining the core squad flying out to NZ? They're supposed to fly out tomorrow aren't they? So, must be today at some point.
