2013 British and Irish Lions

I can see both sides to this argument tbh. One one hand you'd say that if Jenkins isn't good enough to get ahead of Sheridan for Toulon then how can he be selected for the Lions ahead of him. On the other hand, Jenkins is an experienced Lions, something we're lacking and he's probably better in the loose. The scrum shouldn't be under too much pressure, so perhaps it's better to have someone who does more at the breakdown in the side, as that's where the series could be won or lost.

In any case, aside from some random acts of thuggery, Cian Healy has been better than both of them over the past 18 months, so he should start.

None of the props mentioned in this thread are as bad, or as good, as people are making out

Well, apart from maybe Healy who has gone from very overrated to basically never mentioned - possibly due to the stamping.

Pictures of the players in their new jerseys some look pretty beat up!

A few observations after looking through those:

- The transition from Kearney to Bowe makes it look like we're looking at Bowe through a goldfish bowl.
- Cuthbert's neck is wider than his head.
- BOD's nose is just f**ked.
- Tuilagi looks like a cheeky kid that's just done something naughty.
- Farrell's been caught in the headlights.
- Conor Murray looks stoned!
- Matt Stevens is made of plastic.
- Richie Gray's hair now really just looks like a wig.
- Alun-Wyn Jones has a potato for a head.
- O'Connell looks positively crazy.
- Heaslip is a robot.
- Tipuric really does look like Doug (the cartoon character).
- Warburton's neck is also wider than his head.

I wouldn't count out George Smith, looks like he's on some form.

I wouldn't either, except that the ARU would have to change its selection policy to pick him.

He is currently on contract with Suntory in Japan, and is effectively "on loan" to the Brumbies. Under current ARU policiy, that makes him ineligible for Wallaby selection, even if Suntory were happy to let him play

My point is proven.

Gethin is a loose head and not a tight head as Hayman's is. As you pointed out ... Welsh hype  ... if you want Welsh hype ... more Welsh players should have gone and Shaun Edwards should be there infront of Farrell ....

Shaun might have played standoff in League, but asking him to tour over Owen is a bit much, even for my bias. ;)

Yep. Union fly-halves have to deal with something that a League stand-off doesn't... its called "openside flanker"

New just released have said ARU are going to make George Smith an exception to the current policy so he will be eligible to play.

Interesting that Bowe is apparently the smallest winger going that says something.

I don't see how anyone could have an issue with Jenkins going. He's a proven Lion who has proved his international quality in the last few months. If available, I think Sheridan would have been in serious contention as well, and it would be interesting to see who would have won if they'd both gone on tour.

Really not sure about the Vunipola call though. I see the logic, but wonder about whether he's ready to do it.

Interesting to read that some reporters are saying Bests exclusion was possibly due to an argument before a 6N game before. If this is true I'd be annoyed. Part of me thinks Best lost out due to poor throwing while other part is saddened he's not going as I know he's a hard worker and poor lineout throws aren't all his fault but the issue has overshadowed other assets of his game where he is well ahead of selected lads.

This.

The competition between Healy and Jenkins will be good for the test side. Add Sheridan, James and Grant then competition would have been tougher.

Off topic but relevant

Welsh band Manic Street Preachers have announced gigs in Australia so they can follow this summer's 2013 British and Irish Lions tour.

Their announcement follows news that 15 Wales players will be among the 37-man squad for the 10-match tour.

The "massive rugby fans" describe the prospect of watching the team take on Australia as an "once in a lifetime opportunity".
