Just to clarify, Earls is second choice 15 and Bowe is second choice 13.

The XV is the obvious one, same as against SA.

Feicarsinn, seriously man no one is biting on the whole Cullen > DOC thing, a good Heineken Cup lock up against a good international lock with several Lions caps and 1/2 of one of the top partnerships going, no contest.

Only as a reserve. Anyway, he's playing well for the best team in the league. And who else is gonna play fullback who didn't make my squad? Mike Brown? Abendanon? pah.

More like "He's playing reasonably well for <strike>the best</strike> a team in the league."

I guess that's fine for one more week, they're already had all of their easiest fixtures (and rather lucky too).

But where are all the Saracens here?

Easiest fixtures? We've played every team in the league!

And lists including players from Worcester, Newcastle and players who are very tall and very fat don't prove anything.

Saffies have had all the tough sides at home, the rub of a very large green on several occasions and a one-dimensional game-plan which has been well and truely sussed out. And they still have to go to Edgeley Park, Adams Park, Franklins Gardens, Kingsholm and Welford Road, plus "welcome" Newcastle who have a better kick-and-chase gameplan.

They'll do well to stay top 4 form here on in.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DuncTheDoodle @ Jan 5 2010, 07:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My prefered starting XV:

1- G Jenkins
2- M Rees
3- A Jones
4- A W Jones
5- L Charteris
6- S Warburton
7- M Williams
8- R Jones (CAPTAIN)

9- D Peel
10- S Jones

11- S Williams
12- J Hook
13- J Roberts
14- A Brew (He's in better form than the others)
15- L Byrne[/b]

14/15.

I wouldnt pick Brew, although he is in good form Halfpenny has far more variation in his game. For a start he can nail the 40+m kicks which Jones can't. He is stronger and quicker than Brew so I'd put Leigh over Brew.
[/b][/quote]

Brew is stronger and in better form, plus their about the same speed. Brew is also the top try scorer in trhe Magners League so far (Well, joint with Tommy Bowe) while Leigh Halfpenny hasn't scoed a league try all season. (He scored one in the Heinkein Cup, and one for Wales.) I think Brew deserves it.

Here's my Ireland team to beat England: (Just because that's the only game I really want them to win.)

1- Healey
2- Flannery
3- Hayes
4- O'Connell
5- O'Callaghan
6- Ferris
7- Walace
8- Heaslip

9-O'Leary
10- Sexton

11- Fitzgerald (If Fit)/ Earls (I'd like to see Carr, though.)
12- D'Arcy
13- O'Driscoll (CAPTAIN) (Except against Wales, where he's rested and they play a fileing cabinet or something. I dunno. Just make sure he isn't playing against us.)
14- Bowe.
15- Kearney

I was about to pick a Scotland team, before realising I'm largely oblivious as to their backrow and who partners Hines in the second row.

Munsterman, Cullen is the form 4 in Ireland, as he was throghout 09. I'm not looking to stir anything up, just putting down the team I'd like to see.

Wales squad

Props: Gethin Jenkins, Adam Jones, Eifion-Lewis Roberts, Paul James.
Hookers: Richard Hibbard, Ken Owens, Mathew Rees (if fit).
Second Row: (4 of the following) Alun-Wyn Jones, Ian Evans, Jonathan Thomas, Luke Charteris (if fit), Bradley Davies, Ian Gough.
Backrow: Ryan Jones, Martyn Williams, Sam Warberton, Dafydd Jones (if fit), Gareth Delve/Andy Powell

Scrum Halves: Dwayne Peel, Martin Roberts/Wayne Evans, Mike Phillips (when fit).
Outside Halves: Stephen Jones, Dan Biggar
Centres: Jamie Roberts, James Hook, Jonathan Davies, Tom Shaklin (if fit, Andrew Bishop if not).
Wingers: Shane Williams, Leigh Halfpenny, Tom James, Mark Jones (if fit, Aled Brew is not).
Fullbacks: Lee Burne, Jason Tovey.

From that I'd personally pick a starting 22 of:

01 Gethin Jenkins
02 Mathew Rees (Hibbard if not fit)
03 Adam Jones
04 Alun-Wyn Jones
05 Jonathan Thomas (for extra go-forward)
06 Dafydd Jones (Sam Warberton if Jones isn't fit)
07 Martyn Williams
08 Ryan Jones

09 Dwayne Peel (Mike Phillips when fit)
10 Stephen Jones (give Biggar a couple of starts)
11 Shane Williams
12 Jamie Roberts
13 James Hook
14 Tom James (still a phenominal finisher)
15 Lee Burne

16 Paul James
17 Richard Hibbard (Ken Owens if Rees isn't fit)
18 Ian Evans
19 Sam Warberton (Powell if Daf Jones isn't fit)
20 Martin Roberts (Dwayne Peel when Phillips is fit)
21 Dan Biggar
22 Leigh Halfpenny

1. Cian Healy
2. Jerry Flannery
3. John Hayes
4. Donnacha O'Callaghan
5. Paul O'Connell
6. Stephen Ferris
7. David Wallace
8. Jamie Heaslip

9. Tomas O'Leary
10. Johnny Sexton
11. Keith Earls
12. Gordon D'Arcy
13. Brian O'Driscoll
14. Tommy Bowe
15. Rob Kearney

16. Sean Cronin
17. Marcus Horan
18. Leo Cullen
19. Sean O'Brien
20. Eoin Reddan
21. Ronan O'Gara
22. Shane Horgan

I like the look of the Welsh front 5 if they can all stay fit, the four Lions and who ever plays at 4 will be hard to match, possibly second only to the French but it's likely the French front 5 will be chopped and changed through the tournament. A bit more class in the back row and Gav back as an option and they are serious contenders

I think France will come back and win the second rate 6N this year.[/b]

Or maybe they'll come 3rd and still convincingly beat the tri nations champs later on in the year.

Oh! Sorry! I'm thinking of last year

Would any other Irish supports mind seeing Stringer in the 22? Even starting for Ireland? He has been playing better then O'Leary IMO, and seems to always provide quick ball.

Mite, like him or not, without Gav Wales midfield as been about as blunt and dim as Henson's personality. They could try Hook there as I have suggested in the past but a Roberts/Shanklin or Davies/Roberts combination leaves a lot to be desired.

Stringer = Great passer, poor kicker, and his decision making hasn't been up to scratch of late but that is without too much match practice.

His passing does give the Outhalf much more time before the defence hits him, and gives his team more opportunity to get the ball wide, would be far from the end of the world if we pick him, but It's O'Leary's shirt to loose IMO, and TOL and Reddan both have the advantage of two Heineken cup games to show what they can do which Stringer doesn't have.

I'd be ok with having Stringer in the team now that we have a ten that can tackle. I'd still rather have Reddan or O'Leary though. Both better players IMO.
