Who could claim an upset win?

Guys, if you don't want to talk to someone, just please put them on Ignore and wait for someone to post something else - don't drag out the fight for no reason.

edit: Would it be considered an upset if Scotland beat South Africa? I can see that happening, if Scotland click and South Africa continue their recent indifferent away form.

In 38 games, Wales have won 10, with 1 draw and 27 Australia wins. Wales last won in November 2008.

Thanks, Orange. Just seen that Oz have won the last ten games on the trot. Can't see that trend changing in September.

Not sure he watches much rugby in Wales either to be honest given some of his deluded player assessments. One of the dullest posters seen here, and that's some achievement.

+1

I live in Wales watch tonnes of Welsh rugby live and on TV and I can honestly say I think he's just a butthurt ponty fan who hates the regions, the WRU and the English although I can understand that because Chris Robshaw is quite clearly at a fault for everything that isn't perfect in the valleys ...... Just my opinion obviously because in the next few hours VC will be on here disagreeing

Wait we're giving VC the time of day? Damn it I would of so chipped in on this when he suggested Fiji would beat England at Twickers ;)

Apart from the lack of punctuation, you deserve a public flogging (with text) for that!

It's 'would HAVE'!!!!!

It's not would 'of', just because that's what is sounds like!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You fly the bloody flag, so speak the damn language!!!!!!!!

Ok, rant over.

Nothing to see here.

Move along.

Move along.

May has reportedly run 100m in 10.7 seconds. Even if you think the Welsh players are quicker, it's hardly outlandish to say May could be faster. (And for my money, he is.)

See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV0XrH6bCDY#t=35s

I really enjoy watching May play, but I really struggle not to think that in a few years time, he'll be sat on a bleached bench talking to an old Southern woman about life and boxes of chocolates.

It would be an upset if Scotland beat South Africa. But yeah if we can step up from the six nations there is nothing that can suggest why we can't beat them, but now it is a big ask. But if we give the springboks a good game then that will do me.

Yeah in general I'm pretty rubbish at that kind of thing will take note for the future.

I like this thread ***le. It's got me thinking. I'd like the following (but unlikely) upsets...

1. Romania beating Italy?

2. Japan beating Samoa?

3. Wales beating Australia/England. I think that if you forget rankings in this case, Wales' record at beating England away from home is not great. Also, losing 10 against Australia, despite coming close, has really made Aus a statical monkey on the back for Wales.

Man I wish Jonny May could play like he does for Gloucester for England

I have done some high level punditry to show May while playing for each team

He runs sideMays plenty for Glaws too. He had clearly listened to the coaches after his first 6N, and ran straight in the 1st test against NZ, scared NZ a fair bit too, to reward his very good game (and no sideMays running) he was dropped to put Manu on the wing (because we can't ever seem to play 36+Manu in the centres) and then stayed dropped for Ashton...

I think the only upset there is Romania beating Italy. Japan has beaten Samoa recently before even though i'm pretty sure it was a weaken Samoa side but they have still beaten them recently. Wales are capable off beating England away if they can play at they're best despite the stats being against them.

Meh. My expectation would be that Samoa would/should be far too physical for the Japanese when each team has a full compliment. They are currently ranked higher, and a lot of the Samoans have crafted their skills in the New Zealand system. If they involve Nani-Williams a little more then that'll give them not just muscle, but speed in buckets. Although Japan have a few talented players like Michael Leitch who has been in fine form for the Chiefs. Still, I'd consider it an upset. Maybe not of monumental proportions, but all the same..

I just can't get over the mental image of Samoans simply bulldozing clean through the Japanese... Pretty sure the Japanese team is a fair bit lighter in all levels of rugby.

I think that was the case a few years ago but Jones has turned them into a pretty solid unit who have gone back to their traditional style of quick inventive play and supplemented it with the physicality in the midfield they needed. America beating them the other day was an upset imho.

I know Wales are capable, they've done in twice in recent times at Twickenham! But beating the host team WC in Twickers is a big ask, and I certainly would see it as an upset that early in the tournament.

Ditto. A full strength Samoa team can be pretty handy and Japan have traditionally lacked a powerful pack, despite recent improvements. Added to all of this, second place in Pool B is going to be hotly contested.

We've been through this before, they quite clearly play nothing remotely like the recklessly loose rugby played in the 1980's, 1990's and early 2000's. Find the tape of their last couple matches, skip to the final 5 minutes on both occasions, and find me one time in whatever 'traditional' era you're thinking of, where they resort to attempting pushover tries from scrums repeatedly as their best chance of attack. You've got this one completely wrong, they didn't play the massively structured game they do now. Also as an aside, they played reserves against the US, it wasn't particularly an upset in that context, bookies even had US favourites.

Yes, we've been through this before, why does going back to their traditional strengths have to be playing loose and reckless?

Japanese rugby is known for being open and attack minded, it has gone back to that under Jones, he's on record saying he wanted to take them back to their traditional strengths, but supplement it with structure.

I don't think them going for a push over try contradicts that, I also don't think you can disregard the fact they clearly play running rugby on 5 minutes of boshing at the end of a couple of games.
