What book are you currently reading?

I read american version of Men's health once. It's weird, the things guys apparantly worry about!
'How can I make egg whites more intresting, I don't want to eat the yolk because i want to stay healthy, but the whites are a bit boring' I was like, just eat the entire bloomin' egg! [/b]

Now i'm sure you read the entire article and are simply posting it out of context. I have no doubt that they would have explained somewhere along the line in Men's health that although there's no problem eating the whole egg - of course there's not - but the problem is to do with eating many eggs everyday. As we all know, all the cholesterol in an egg is in the yolk and if you want a good amount of protein in the morning eggs are a great way to go about getting the nutrients.
So starting eating 5 eggs a day, 7 days a week and all of a sudden your taking in a heck of a lot of cholesterol. Not good.
Problem is, all the great taste from an egg is in the yolk as well. Eating just the whites on it's own is bland and boring after a while. So making hte egg whites taste a bit more interesting seems quite valid to me.
Reducing cholesterol to keep your heart healthy doesn't so weird to me.
How does it sound to you, missy? :bleh!:

I'm currently reading Man and Boy by Tony Parsons. Found it in a second-hand bookshop the other day (possibly the best bookshop I have ever found) for £1m, recognised the author's name and couldn't resist.

Not hugely far into it yet, but it manages to bring out the two feelings I want to experience when reading a novel - laughter and sorrow. It seems a very simple but equally moving novel so far. If I had more time to spend with it at one sitting, I don't think I'd be able to put it down for some time.

It's a good book: sentimental, well written - if he has never been in that position before then kudos to him for writing so sympathetically and in detail.
But don't read any of the sequel books. That's my warning.

Oh, by the way...can you just clarify how much you bought the book for. Because i'm reading this over and over again:

You cannot be serious!

:D

I buy only the best second-hand books.

Yeah - that was a pretty bad typo. Not sure quite how I managed to hit the 'm'. Perhaps when I was going for the spacebar.

I'll leave the error in. If only to show that I am human afterall.

I have read the Harlan Coben : "promets-moi". (Sorry, in french. In english, i think it must be 'promise me' maybe).
This is a very good book, well written. The scenario is interesting and there's suspence till the end.
You should check it out.

It wasn't an article :p It was in the 'ask questions to' section, and the entire question was, "How can I make eggwhites more intresting?". And one of the replies was indeed just eat the whole egg, but don't overdo it.

I'm aware of the effect eggs have on cholesterol, but you don't need to eat an egg every day. So just skip two eggdays, and then eat the bloody egg! I sometimes do wonder how they come up with that stuff :p

Only french author I have livrets de poche of is Amélie Nothomb, I read her Stuepurs et Treblements, Métaphysique des Tubes and her Mercure.
I like her writing style, but to be honest, I also think she's a bit bonkers. Which is a good thing in my book for that matter

Still reading the Steppenwolf by Hesse (I keep refering to it as the Hessewolf :s)
Also still reading Jakob the liar.
Will also be reading Coleridge this week, as last week we did Wordsworth (his sister needed to be sent on a writing camp urgently, I know she was just noting down random stuff but still 'The moon very big' who writes like that?)

I finished Oscar Wilde's "The picture of Dorian Gray" some days ago and now I'm reading two books by Kafka "Metamorphosis" and "The process".

Two Kafka's at once, as soon as you finish them both you'll be as puzzled as you never were in your life!

Was Dorian Gray Good? I have a copy, never got to reading it.

I recommend James Rollins - The Black Order, it's in the genre of Dan Brown... A lot of suspense, I love it!

Not about a book I'm reading, but related to it:
I started making lists of my books thanks to the book fair held here in Antwerp, and have found out I own 251 books, of which 169 fiction (I'm including cookbooks and Manga in the 251)

I liked 1984, it gave me a bit of paranoia afterwards but still, it's a good book!

Brilliant book, absolutely brilliant. I loved 1984.

Just started reading: -

World War Z
by Max Brooks

Ladies and gentlemen...it's a zombie book.
Woo hoo!!!

I stayed up until 3 am (only started it at half past 1 but still) reading a children's book, sadly, I don't know the ***le in English.
Has anyone ever heard of Astrid Lindgren? I would bet 100â'¬ (that I don't have but, details) that everyone has heard of some of her work, even if they don't know she wrote it originally.

Anyway, if anyone here ever has children, or gets to babysit nephews/nieces, you should read them Astrid Lindgren books.

:D Never heard of Astird before.

Currently reading Emperor: The Gate Of Rome by Conn Iggulden. Fascinating

RC: Is that any good that Zombie book? Saw it one time, I love my Zombies but I love my cash as well....

Atm I am reading 'I am America(And so can you)' By Stephen Colbert, I am currently on hiatus from The Best of H.P Lovecraft, I will recommence after the Colbert book....there is so much monster stories that can be read in a row....

I may or may not have mentioned this before, but I am a big fan of the "Dexter" series. Though I will say Jeff Lindsay isn't the greatest writer in the world, but the character of Dexter is so funny, and intelligent, that you actually like him despite his habit of gruesomly murdering other serial killers. The reason I am reiterating this is because I recently read the third novel in the series and my god he dropped the ball. I wish he just didn't write it. To be honest the TV series has now surpassed it in terms of character development and storyline. Highly disappointed. But go pick up Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter. The latter is so rediculously gory but at the same time it's funny as hell. I also suggest the TV show if you see it on, fantastic.

I think I'm going to head to the library tomorow. I need to pick up some new books, it's been a while since I dug my teeth into a good book, time to get back into it.

I'm looking for Bert Sugar's new book "My view from the Corner". It's a boxing book, like you'd expect from Mr. Sugar, but it's Angelo Dundee's stories as aided by Bert Sugar. Angelo Dundee is of course one of the most influencial in boxing history having trained 15 World Champions in the last 50 years. The foreword is written by Muhammad Ali, so I'm pretty excited to be honest. Plus Sugar is one of the funniest people I have ever heard.

I suppose I'll update sometime tomorrow.

The TV Show of Dexter is awesome, best new show i've seen this year apart from possibly Burn Notice.

Reading Z for Zachariah at the moment, found it in a box last week, read it in Form 1 seven years ago, obviously forgot to return the copy to the school (Has "Farmcove Intermediate" and "FCI" stamped in 6 different places) and has sat unknown ever since.

Found it as boring as I did when I was 12, thinking of either dropping it in my old teachers classroom next time I go by or burn it.

I've only just started it, but there's hardly any Zombie action.
I know, it's introducing the whole epidemic and it's taking a very novel approach to storytelling, which is making it tense and is one of the main reasons i'm still reading becuase i'm really expecting it to progress immensely into quite a grusome book.
