Warwick leaving Munster for London Irish

No, I haven't seen him play unfortunately. He sounds brilliant though. Just what London Irish need. Apart from Geraghty, we don't have anyone who can play fly half well apart from Mike Catt who is, obviously, too old. Geraghty is better at 12 as well, IMO. Sounds like he will be sorely missed by Munster. Does anyone know if it has been confirmed yet? Its really confusing

London Irish released an official statement claiming he had signed a two year contract (and a three year contract), Munster's PR Man Pat Geraghty denied it and said he will be a Munster player next season and the season after but Munster are yet to release an official statement. Looks like he is on his way to Reading :(

Sounds bad for you, but good for us. But you never know, he might stay at Munster.

Latest rumour is that Munster have signed Felix Jones from Leinster as a replacement for Warwick. Warwick signed his deal on January 13th, and has since changed his mind but he is still going unless he can somehow persuade Munster to buy out the deal.

Keith Earls, Denis Hurley and now Felix Jones should have full Back covered but I imagine we will have to bring in a Fly Half as well or try and develop Conan Doyle into a flyhalf.

Ah bugger.

Back to the no reasonable cover for O'Gara situation. Hopefully we can have Sexton or Keatley. But other than that I'm worried.

I'm just after hearing that rumour too. Jones would be an excellent signing. He's not in the same class as Rob Kearney but is still a very talented player who excels in attack. Moving province is a good move for him. The competition with Denis Hurley should spur both players on. If Sexton can also be added to the Munster ranks, the departure of Paul Warwick will well and truly be covered.

Jones' addition would allow Keith Earls concentrate on replacing Rua Tipoki in the centre rather than becoming a utility player.

London Irish Statement on Paul Warwick Signing
London Irish reconfirmed today (30th January) that Paul Warwick signed a contract with the club on 13th January. The contract is for two seasons and has a start date of 1st July 2009.
London Irish nevertheless understands through informal channels that Paul Warwick is now seeking to withdraw from the contract on the back of revised terms presented by Munster Rugby.

London Irish has written to Munster Rugby and Paul Warwick seeking formal clarification of their position but to date no response has been received.

London Irish is considering its options and will not hesitate to take all such action as it deems necessary to fully protect the best interests of the Club.[/b]

It seems as though London Irish want compensation if Munster are to keep Warwick (perhaps I'm reading too much into it). In my opinion, since Warwick is not Irish qualified the Munster Branch and the IRFU should not front up cash to have him remain. If Warwick wants to buy himself out of the deal, that's perfectly acceptable. Instead of seeing Munster throw money to London Irish, spend it on developing players or signing one of Sexton or Keatley.

well if Munster want to keep him, then surely they'll have to buy him out of the London Irish contract. As far as I'm aware funds for signings have to be made available by the branches themselves.

RTÉ have confirmed that Jones has signed for Munster on a 2 year deal.

Why do you assume that? Maybe he wants to go and Munster are doing a Man-Utd and cockblocking the move?

because he's settled with a wife and kid(s) and going from European champions to a Premiership side is hardly the move that dreams are made of.

Of course... Munster are the be all and end all while the Premiership is a boring-nothing league whom nobody want's to play in, after all. Especially for a team like O'Irish who are only looking to be a major competitor in the near future.

I see the logic. Sticking to an understudy role of O'Choke is the wise move.

Munsters bubble will burst sooner or later. That's assuming all 16 of them don't vanish competely up their own collective anuses first.

No, you'll see all the old squad retiring within the next few years. Who's coming through to replace them except Earls and Dowling? Are there any young forwards? Or are they only relying on imports to fill in the blanks now?

Just look at the Munster side who played the All Blacks in November. Most of the forwards were young and quite exciting. Those players will have another five, maybe six years to go in their careers.

this being the munster bubble that has seen them qualify to the quarter finals of the Heineken cup 11 times running? I'm no fan of them either but it aint a bubble mate. theyre always going to be one of the top teams in europe. and yes they have quite a few yound guns coming through, as shown against the all blacks in the AIs
