Warm Up Match 3: Crusaders v British & Irish Lions (Christchurch)

So I've paid $70 NZD's for my ticket to the Lions game in Dunedin on Tuesday. Hopefully there's a few more points in it than tonight.

What sort of team are people expecting? Will it be a midweek team ,or will he try keep some continuity?
The usual turdfest? I think that's the word we are hearing .......

Are they playing indoors?

Well the stadium has a roof. I can see our backline doing a lot more damage than the Crusaders. It's the forwards I'm concerned about, we have Pryor, Christie and Squire out. The lads have done well this season, but Jesus they're knackered and a few rookies in there.

Having given it a little thought, smatcooky's points are interesting, and could be crucial in the test series.
1) If the ABs have an advantage at scrum time, then that is important insofar as making the Lions backline step back to stay onside, assuming the scrum is going backwards a little.
2) That will then make the rush D less effective, as they'll be on the back foot, with the ABs having a bit of extra space and time.

Therefore, the refereeing of the scrums, and the offside line, could be important.

I still think that it won't make much odds, as the AB coaches will be expecting it, and the gameplan is far too limited to stop them. First test is the biggest worry. As usual. Could be tight. I just see more game breakers in the black team than the other lot.

If people want to find the best haka ever they should watch the one in Friday Night Lights, I can't find it on Youtube, maybe it was so beautiful it was considered porn.

Who hasn't seen Friday night lights?

There will always only be one true Lions coach:

Goes both ways mate. There's numerous amounts of aggressive British posters on here that far out number the smattering of crappy SH posters, there's a lot of mob mentality here too, particularly towards the Haka.

Maybe you have a point and perhaps I've just tuned the others out through seeing lots of their posts.
But some of the posts from your brethren.....

As for the Haka - maybe there are other threads I haven't seen but what I see on this thread is people's opinions and most NH posters seem to be supporting its performance.
Those asking questions might be a little ignorant but it is not sacrilegious or insulting and I don't see anything massively one-eyed or wilfully aggressive.

My own view might be ignorant but I believe it's place is for the Maoris and national side. This is a personal opinion, not a slight on your nation in any way.
For those who argue that it's happening at (nearly) every game as a recognition of tradition, I'd ask if the club sides have done it, en-masse for a touring side before (Lions or any other)?
If so then fair enough, but if not then why now?

With only two days gap, you have to think it's gonna be all change - subs from today might feature but I can't see any starters from today making the XV ( unless maybe if Hogg or Davies recover).

Well the Highlanders are doing a Scottish theme, so you get a break from it. But no doubt the British posters will complain about that too. Perhaps we should have a tea party before kick-off instead, would you fellas like that instead? ;)

I'd rather they just got on and played rugby :)

Alpha Bro, I know you're not a huge Te'o believer but what do you think of him on tour so far? Personally speaking he's exceeded my expectations.

As for this tour, there's no way the lions can win; even if by some minor miracle they outscore their opponents it's going to feel like a defeat with the backlash from the kiwi fans.

In terms of the haka, I don't see why you'd have a problem with it although I think they should be kept short and sweet, whereas a couple of the tour ones have felt like epic multi-act theatre productions. I'd like to see the lions responding with some Morris dancing .

You realize this tour is a special occasion and people are making an effort to welcome the Lions and honour them.

People here need a wake up call, I've personally found it rude and ignorant.

And you wonder why people get short with the British.

See there it is again, it seems you're reading intent that just isn't there (you saw the smiley face, right?).

There's nothing wrong at all with pre-match entertainment, I simply believe the Haka shouldn't fall into that category.

What about dem Irish?

Personally not sure why all the moaning about the haka's pre game, as i said it happens once every 12 years for NZ, It's nice to see a country embrace it's indigenous culture.

See thats the problem IMO, it isn't meant to been seen as pre-match entertainment and i'm sure the players don't see it as that so i don't know why others look at it like that.

Tbh it seems it's only me now and I didn't want to moan, just to make my point.

Best for me to leave it alone now I reckon.
