Wales vs England - 13/08/2011 - RWC Warm Up

I'll just recap on what I said earlier on a slightly different note.. That is THE WORST REFEREEING I'VE EVER, EVER SEEN.

The only positives that can be taken from that is that Banahan and Hape should have played themselves off of the plane

However, they'll probably both be in 1st XV for the England squad knowing Johnson...

Cracking result for us. Was no where near a classic, but considering possession and territory its a miracle result. England looked very poor, but welsh defense was very strong. Cracking defensive effort. With players to come back, i hope the set pieces get better. I certainly had faith in the boys, and they've delivered. Not an amazing game, but for confidence i'll take that :p

Fantastic. Not so much in attack but defensive we were immense. Credit to Shaun Edwards and the team for that. Ref was chuffing awful. Lots of confidence to be carried through plus the knowledge that we still have Byrne, S. Jones and Gethin to come back.

that was a phenomenally bad performance from banahan, even by his standards. the only problem wit that logic is that plenty others of the first team would also have played themselves off the plane. I felt sorry for Foden, he looked lively whenever he had the ball and had to live with the idiots around him. cueto was alright too. but i really was most shocked by how clueless flood was today. really did not expect that from him. most of all i think its MJ who i've lost more confidence in. a lot of us are disappointed with some team selections, but sometimes i think well, maybe its just working well like that in training or something. but that has to be able to translate into game time. I havent seen a more clueless england back game since the early 2010 six nations.

what now then, backwise?

9) youngs (when fit)
10) hodgson
11) cueto
12) Flutey(?)
13) Tuilagi
14) Ashton
15) Foden

To be fair the referee was bad, but as you say he was sporadically awful to both teams. the fault really lies with how we played.

The only positives for England I can think of is that Hape and Banahan have probably played their way off the plane.

Full credit to Wales, they were great in defence.

Aye, the Welsh defensive effort was bloody brilliant - full marks

Can't help but think "What if Wilko was playing..."
The amount of time we spent in the Welsh 22, he'd have been knocking over dropgoals all afternoon

No idea who we'll see against Wales - I'm keen to see who gets cut, because after today, Johnson has no right taking Banahan/Hape (though he didn't in the first place) - Why why why didn't he try Sharples out today?

That's the difference in a World Class fly half or not.

That's exactly what i was thinking. I think that was the difference last week. Really thought there should have been a few drop goals from England today, would have been miles away with the amount of territory they posses.

:D:D:D:D Wales actually won! Hwre! Epic defence, especially against such a quality side as England. Really impressed, and we actually took our chances:D:D:D:D

Fair play Bennett was a vast improvement on Burns, if he continues like that he could be our first choice hooker. I'm happy to be wrong.:p

Gatland has stated that he's gonna change things next week, i really hope they don't. We need to build momentum, bring the players in that need to be there, but the Argies are a strong unit. 15 new players into the starting line up will be a disaster!!

England were rubbish. Our defence was awesome though. I feel with a good scrum and lineout we can compete well, as our scrum was abysmal. Shame Henson went off, he was showing some promise playing!

Lloyd burns was rubbish, and felt pleased for the first time ever to see Bennett coming on, and surprisingly he played quite well.

Makes me laugh to see Cueto still playing in an England shirt. He is nowhere near International class. I laugh in the face of those who rate him. Having him and Banahan on the wings was never a good sign for England.

Honestly have no idea what the England forwards were doing at the breakdown. Absolute terrible - no one there, no protection...the number of times they got counter-rucked by 2 defenders. And for that to go on for 80 minutes and not adjust to? Terrible by both the players and the coaching staff.

I reckon they'll put out the best front row they can, and maybe bring in Byrne and/or Halfpenny. If Delve isn't dropped he should also get a chance, seeing as Faletau made a few mistakes.

If Wilkinson had been playing then England would have scored more, but imagine if Gethin and Adam were playing for us, pretty much the only penalties were gave away were in the scrum, that wouldn't have happened had they been there. We'd have had better ball from scrum and got our backs running a bit more. I still think we need to get Phillips away from that team, he's still so slow. Also impressed with Henson until he went off, hopefully he's not too injured he needs another game.

If England pick more creative players in the backs they can be really good, their pack gets them good consistent ball all the time

I'd like to see the majority of today's team play next week, with Jenkins and Jones coming in at the front row (possibly Bennett as well - played quite well when he came on).

Bradley Davies coming in to partner Alun Wyn with possibility of Delve/Jones in at 8 (just to see).

Phillips had a much better game today, think that Tan of his helped a lot ;)

All centres played well me thinks (with a great effort in defense from all - yes even the ORANGE ONE). Looked like he was holding his forearm when he went off, so it should be interesting to see how "serious" his injury is (if it was even an injury).

Shane at full back anyone????? ;) ;)

First off well done Wales, incredible defensive effort and took their chances in attack.

England were abyssmal.

So far I have counted three line breaks in 160 minutes of rugby - watching the Oz v SA game just now I counted 10 in the first 20 minutes.

England looked static, predictable and slow in attack - they are taking the ball standing still, no one running from deep, no running lines to keep the defence guessing, no quick ball - it was like watching 15 men trudge through treacle.

The depressing thing is you watch the OZ v SA game and its like watching a different sport - the pace and intensity of the game is chalk and cheese.

The southern hemisphere teams and Wales and France to an extent know how to run into space - England just play crash ball into the man - its more like watching St Helens vs Wigan in rugby league.

Why do England look so clueless? To have that much possession and territory and not score one try? Ok the welsh defence was good, but they were made to look good with England's slow, ponderous and predictable attack.

What happened to the exciting running rugby England played in the xix nations?

Congratulations to wales though - they looked far more incisive with ball in hand. I would back them to make it further than England in the World cup.

Now thats a BOLD call ;) ;) hahahaha

But I must agree with you in that England need a plan B, running rugby was successful for them why have they turned their back on it?? (i saw a few offloads but still).

I don't think its a bold call looking at the two teams over two games - wales outscore England 4-2 on tries, look more incisive in attack, play more intelligent rugby, better in the breakdown etc etc - I'd put money on England going out at the quarter final no joke.
