With Wales A finally about to be resurrected (guessing their first fixtures will be during the 6 Nations?), was just wondering who people would pick to play for them! Obviously no players who're currently in the main squad. This is my pick:

15. Chris Czekaj/Martyn Thomas
14. Adam Hughes
13. Andrew Bishop
12. Ashley Beck
11. Will Harries
10. Jason Tovey
9. Rhys Webb
8. Ben Morgan (qualifies for Wales in January 2012)
7. Justin Tipuric (would pick Nugget, but would be better for Tipurics development)
6. Josh Turnbull
5. Ian Evans (would be very useful to help get him back to his form from 08)
4. Aaron Shingler
3. Rhys Thomas
2. Bit of a dodgy position for us atm, would say put anyone who's not in the main 22 atm so lets say Lloyd Burns or Richard Hibbard
1. Iestyn Thomas (bit of front row experience I suppose)

16. Same again, not many decent Welsh hookers around!
17. Sam Hobbs
18. Macauley Cook
19. Andries Pretorious (not sure if he's qualified by then, if not then Rob McCusker)
20. Wayne Evans
21. Dan Biggar
22. Martyn Thomas/Chris Czekaj

15. Martyn Thomas/Steffan Jones
14. Will Harries
13. Gareth Maule
12. Ashley Beck
11. Andy Fenby
10. Jason Tovey
9. Rhys Webb
1. Phil Price
2. Ken Owens
3. Scott Andrews
4. Aaron Shingler
5. Lou Reed
6. Rob McCusker
7. Justin Tipuric
8. Tom Brown/Morgan Allen/Thomas Young(I think Ben Morgan will be in the match day 22)

16. Lloyd Burns
17. Eifion Lewis-Roberts( Is quite old but can cover both sides)
18. Ian Evans
19. Josh Turnbull
20. Richie Rees
21. Matthew Morgan
22. Adam Hughes

15. Dan Fish
14. Will Harries
13. Andrew Bishop
12. Ashley Beck
11. Aled Brew
10. Dan Biggar
9. Rhys Webb

1. Ryan Bevington
2. Ken Owens
3. Scott Andrews
4. Ian Evans
5. Macauley Cook
6. Rob McCusker
7. Justin Tipuric
8. Andy Powell/Morgan Allen

15. Martyn Thomas
14. Will Harries
13. Scott Williams
12. Ashley Beck
11. Aled Brew
10. Jason Tovey
9. Rhys Webb
1. Ryan Bevington
2. Ken Owens
3. Scott Andrews
4. Ian Evans
5. Lou Reed
6. Rob McCusker
7. Justin Tipuric
8. Ben Morgan

16. Lloyd Burns/Scott Baldwin (?)
17. Eifion Lewis-Roberts
18. Macauley Cook (Not many locks around)
19. Josh Turnbull/Lewis Evans
20. Lloyd Williams
21. Dan Biggar
22. Chris Czekaj

15. Nick Macleod
14. Jonathan Spratt
13. Jamie Robinson
12. Phil Dollman
11. Andy Fenby
10. Nicky Robinson
9. Dwayne Peel
1. Eifion Lewis-Roberts
2. Marc Jones
3. Ben Broster
4. Will James
5. Lou Reed
6. Ed Siggery
7. James Harris
8. Tom Smith

Subs:
16. Ed Shervington
17. Ceri Jones
18. Rhys Thomas
19. Josh Turnbull
20. Rob McCusker
21. Martin Roberts
22. Steve Shingler
23. Lee Thomas

i think an 'A' team would be a good way to give players who ply their trade abroad a chance of semi-international rugby and a chance to impress

15. Martyn Thomas
14. Will Harries
13. Scott Williams
12. Ashley Beck
11. Aled Brew
10. Jason Tovey
9. Rhys Webb
1. Ryan Bevington
2. Ken Owens
3. Scott Andrews
4. Ian Evans
5. Lou Reed
6. Rob McCusker
7. Justin Tipuric
8. Ben Morgan

16. Lloyd Burns/Scott Baldwin (?)
17. Eifion Lewis-Roberts
18. Macauley Cook (Not many locks around)
19. Josh Turnbull/Lewis Evans
20. Lloyd Williams
21. Dan Biggar
22. Chris Czekaj

Aaron Shingler
Dominic Day
Paul ***o qualifies
Josh Turnbull can play there
Deiniol Jones could have a chance to get back in
Damien Welch would be great if him and nigel saw eye to eye (apparently)

Been thinking about this in the recent months and wondered how the 'A' side would function. Would it act as a place for the development of youngsters or a way to gain experience or a way for the previously capped international players to force their way back into the senior squad.

I found it tough so there are multiple names mentioned per position. Some may be available from the senior squad and the players who are listed first are not necessarily the first choices. If it acts as a development purposes would the best from the Welsh Premiership get a look in? All questions that would affect selection for a Wales A side.

1. Duncan Jones / Ryan Bevington / Sam Hobbs / Iestyn Thomas
2. Rhys T Thomas / Lloyd Burns / Ken Owens
3. Scott Andrews / Rhys Thomas / John Yapp
4. Lou Reed / Aaron Shingler / Adam Jones
5. McCauley Cook / Ian Evans / Ian Gough / James Down
6. Josh Turnbull / Rob McCusker / Ed Siggery
7. Justin Tipuric / Josh Navidi / Gavin Thomas
8. Andries Pretorius / Tom Brown / John Thomas

9. Lloyd Williams / Rhys Webb / Richie Rees / Wayne Evans / Tom James
10. Jason Tovey / Dan Biggar / Matthew Morgan / Steffan Jones / Ceri Sweeney

11. Tom James / Richard Fussell / Andrew Fenby
12. Ashley Beck / Dafydd Hewitt / Gareth Maule
13. Andrew Bishop / Ashley Smith / Scott Williams / Adam Hughes / Rhodri Gomer-Davies
14. Will Harries / Kristian Phillips / Tom Prydie
15. Martyn Thomas / Chris Czekaj / Dan Fish / Daniel Evans

I'd rather see it as a development team for younger guys, have the likes of Tovey and Morgan rotating at 10, give em both experiance etc.

Ye but surely then you got to have experienced men around them? Can't just field a side of youngsters in my opinion. Got to be a balance between youth and experience.

Just extrapolating from countries that do still have an A team...

You mix and match in terms of youngsters breaking through and established players on the fringes. That way you get the balance Cymro talks about.

Also, I doubt you'll see players from the Welsh Premiership. I don't think even Scotland pick players from outside the main leagues, and obviously they've got two less top level teams than you. That said, Wales has shown far less compunction about advancing raw but talented players than the rest of the home nations, so I can believe it would happen.

Based on what I've seen, Steve Shingler (currently at LI) should be in consideration for this squad.
