It's been well known that Gatland has been pushing for a Wales A team to be brought back. He's mentioned it several times in the reasoning behind having to throw youngsters such as Tom Prydie and Tavis Knoyle straight in at the deep end.

It now look like his wish (and the wish of every other Welsh rugby supporter) is about to come true.

This is great, great news if true. What kind of team could Wales put out at A-level? Here's the kinda team I'd pick:

01 Hugh Gustaffson.
02 Ken Owens (if not in full squad) / Richard Hibbard / Gareth Williams / Huw Bennett / Steve Jones.
03 Rhys Thomas / Eifion Lewis-Roberts.
04 Ian Gough (a few old heads are good).
05 Luke Charteris / Ian Evans / Lou Reed / Domonic Day.
06 Josh Turnbull / Dan Lydiate (if not in full squad).
07 Ben Lewis / Dafydd Jones (coming back from injury).
08 Toby Faletau / Joe Bearman / Andy Powell.

09 Wayne Evans / Tavis Knoyle / Martin Roberts.
10 Jason Tovey / Dan Biggar / Rhys Priestland.
11 Tom James.
12 Gareth Owen.
13 Tom Shanklin / Jonathan Davies.
14 Aled Brew (if not in full squad).
15 Tom Prydie / Martin Thomas / Morgan Stoddard / Daniel Evans.

That's a pretty handy team, and that's ignoring a few older guys who could come in to add experience. The likes of Iestyn Thomas at prop, Peel at scrum half.

Really great news for Welsh rugby, always thought it was ludicrous not having an A team, but spending money on sevens.

Really great news for Welsh rugby, always thought it was ludicrous not having an A team, but spending money on sevens.

As I have said before, 7s funds itself, and there are lucrative sponsors there who also cover some of the small costs. 7s is nothing compared to running an A-Team.

I saw the games that they're looking at and some world-class opposition in England, Ireland and the tri-nations but I hope they can squeeze in a few Pacific nations in their as well such as Tonga, SAMOA, Fiji and the Maori. Pacific nations I think would be more likely because the tri-nations schedule would already be quite full I think.

Where did you see that then? The article is speculation.
