ould be very beneficial for Italian rugby, more Carter than McCaw. Think how much young Italian fly-halves could learn from him.

and also kids watching Treviso may watch Carter and inspire them to get into rugby and play fly half, I don't think Burton inspires any kids to play 10

and if Treviso were to start winning more with them in the team then it would the crowds and interest would get bigger

there are lots of reasons why this would help Italian rugby

I mean what's the point in a 5 month sabbatical overall. Why not 8 or 12 months?

From the players point of view, extra cash.

From the union's point of view, not having them miss the super 15 or international season

Don't really see what the point in a 5 month sabbatical is though ...

The club gets bums on seats, and maybe enough of a boost from that 5 months to propel them into playoffs (Treviso in particular). The players get mad money, and to live in Italy for five months.

ivseen several articles citing that the new irfu foerign player policy is part of wannenburg leaving
therefore i assume we couldnt sign kaino

http://www.ulsterrugby.com/news/10323.php

also a pedrie wannenburg for sale?

Different, the IRFU prevent multi-year contracts going to players over 30, we could have signed Kaino for multiple years. Kaino's probably getting more money for less work over there, which isn't a bad call, but equally if that's what he wants I'm glad we haven't got him. Like every NH club, we need players hungry for the challenge, not looking to start the pension.

Big shame about Pedrie going, he's been immense this season and I was really looking forwards to the depth we'd have with him and Wilson. Be interesting to see what they do with the last NIQ slot now.

Carter's last "sabbatical" with Perpignan was from December after the Autumn Internationals to the end of the season, meaning he missed the Super Rugby season, I expect it is the same period this time as well

of course with Perpignan, Carter was injured after 3 matches so he barely had much impact on the pitch at all

Italian international rugby is at an all time high in terms of players going to the games. If signing Carter and McCaw helps similarly boost Italian club rugby, this is brilliant news. It should bring more sponsorship to Treviso and the Pro 12 at least.

It's the press, so course it was probably made up (and to think I spent 2 years at Uni training to be a journo).

"It is all crap. I have had these reports coming to me, too. The guys know nothing about it. God knows where it has come from."

Since when are you allowed to put the word "crap" in a news article?

Aston Croall rumoured to be in talks with Bris. Front row player, something we might need cover in soon.

He's not a bad player - didn't get many chances with Sale but I thought he was pretty good when he was on.
Plays both loosehead prop and hooker. Throwing wasn't amazing (apparently he's been working a lot on that since he's gone back to 'Quins) but did well enough in the tight.
Handy squad player.

I think the WRU and Blues are going to try an dual-contract him.
One step closer to central contracts.

With Fitzgeerald still not signing a new deal does anyone know where if he actually went would be his most likely destination.
