Transfers rumours

Worcester Warriors might be flashing the cash soon, as they are close to being taken over.

Did hear that Glaws are in for Sekope Kepu, though it is admittedly third-hand news.

I'd hate to see this, Immense player and great lad for the changing rooms.. would be a huge loss to us.

Saying that, our back row options are growing by the second, Shields, J Willis, T Willis, Rieder (new deal signed), Hughes, s Jones (England's Broken Man), Thompson, Haskell (contract up end of season but expected to extend), Youngs, Johnson and Carr (who sounds like he's keen to stay) , we are well set here.

Also very obvious rumour but serious rounds being made on Cips heading to France for Toulon, Lyon and Stade.
I think Cipriani's Toulon bound personally and I can see Haskell heading to France for one last pay day, if his international future is done....

If you want to throw money at a winger, why Bassett? He's a good player, not someone you go out of the way and splash the cash to buy. His main benefit is that he'll never go away on international duty, is that enough?

The harsh truth is who else will sign for us? we're doing pretty shite at the minute and there's no sign that we're going to I prove, Bassett is a pretty solid winger who comes off his wing, that's what we need, we don't need anyone fancy like North who to be honest hasn't had the greatest of runs at saints

Some possibly made up rumours here:

Munster want to sign Tiernan O'Halloran. Ulster also interested in him.

Bristol and Sarries chasing Kieran Marmion.

Jake Heenan to Bristol.

Cian Kelleher could be on his way back to Leinster.

Jordi Murphy had offers from all four Irish provinces.
On Tiernan O'Halloran deal. Munster are in deep talks with him as I said ages ago.
On Jordi Murphy I can safely say we were never interested in him and well that made up. We have Oliver Cloete and Tommy for 6.
POM Jacko Stander Copeland and alot up young guys coming through.
On Heenan. Possibly a good move going Bristol.
On Kelleher that is an interesting one and Snoop that could all link back in to our earlier chat on budgets and that. But would be an interesting move.

Also just looked that it was Cummiskey who wrote it. A lad that was called up on it Monday and embarrassed by Munster media officials on Monday.
He really hasn't a clue

Is there any truth in Ben Foden going to France? heard that before North announced he was leaving.

Why on earth would we recruit Murphy, and also why would Murphy even consider coming given the depth we have at backrow, unless his utility now extends to second row. He's a fine player, but he'd be moving to escape competition only to compete with two Lions, an outstanding signing in Cloete, O'Donnell to some extent and a raft of young players like O'Donoghue and O'Connor. We're very well stocked and really don't need to bloat the squad, not sure why Cummiskey would make this stuff up, beyond the obvious. He's way late on the O'Halloran front, that's been known for months. I'd rather back one of our own like Nash to be honest though. We're good for back three. Heenan to Bristol I could see, but I wouldn't sign a player with his injury profile personally. Suppose Bristol can afford to take a chance with their money. He wouldn't be on megabucks.
"Marmion, who has slipped to third in the Irish scrumhalf pecking order" isn't even a fact, it's an opinion (which I would share, but still)? Marmion was the second choice in the only game we went full strength I would say.
Kelleher back to Leinster is a weird one. Connacht looking like a sinking ship if a guy like him (who I really rate quite highly on his day) would rather go back to the fierce competition at Leinster, rather than compete at Connacht with what I would class a group of players unlikely to make any sort of step up. I mean he'd have to prove himself as more reliable than established solid at worst players like McFadden and D.Kearney, and then compete with guys like Daly, Byrne et al to get a look in.
"Munster's poor financial state makes it difficult for them to compete even in the internal Irish player market." And that is for sure total parasitic bitter speculation from Cummiskey hidden under the guise of non existant sources.

Geordan Muphy being linked to the Cardiff blues head coach.

He's been at Tigers for 20 years with no break!!!!!!!!

... a positive move for him? I guess it's up the ladder.

Dragons also 'bidding for Quade Cooper' according to the BBC.

Don't despair, Stephen Myler 2.0 is coming next season!!! Seriously though I don't think its got to that point yet for Saints. You've recently been able to attract the likes of Rob Horne and Brussow amongst others, and theres still lots of big names at the club. Mallinder should still be able to talk about the clubs "big ambitions" to potential signings.

Also, good luck with that Dragons...

While obviously a fantastic player, how has he performed as a coach with Leicester?

Answers / opinions warmly received.

We need a coach who's looking at a three year plan and is looking/experience in developing some promising youth, but with no player budget. Is that too much to ask for ;)?

As a coach he has been good he was head coach of the Anglo-welsh team that won last season, and he is head coach of the current anglo-welsh cup and A league teams so he is used to coaching young players.

I'm hoping this is a case of this is a stepping stone for the Tigers job later down the line cause it won't be the same without him.

It's early doors yet but there have been very promising signs with how well he's handled the youngsters. He's been given free rein over the AWC games (which Tigers won) and they were pretty much the most positive aspect of the last couple of seasons. He might've been a fancy back but he gets the kids playing with proper aggression and physicality aswell. If he does look likely to take over at Blues you should watch the AWC game against a much stronger, more experienced Bath team last month for a blueprint of how he would look to play. Just ignore the scrums, ffs.

Sounds very promising for both parties then. A lot is going on off field at Cardiff, and the players are coming through, but the coaching is a key issue. Would like to see him alongside a strong forwards coach then and to have the countinued support of Shaun Edwards. Might be a nice place for Murphy to develop his trade for the top job for a few years. It won't be easy either!

Thanks for the above. Hope it goes well for him. I'm looking at it from the perspective of somebody who'd like to have people like Geordan Murphy, Bernard Jackman, Mark McCall, Ronan O'Gara and Jeremy Davidson back coaching in Irish rugby.

As an aside, what are your impressions of Matt O'Connor as head coach so far?

Doing well IMO considering he couldn't make that many changes. (He made a few but the Tigers squad needs alot of rebuilding).
His attack game plan is working a treat on the whole when Ford, Toomua and May where fit together our attack IMO was one of the most dangerous in the league which hasn't been the case for some time.

So early doors but happy with the direction just needs to focus on this season but also recruitment in the depth department.

I hope it works out well for Leicester because they are a massive club. Also hope O'Connor has learned from his mistakes as Leinster coach when he didn't back the raft of promising youngsters who are now streaming through into the first team.
