Transfers rumours

Well they have the best backs coach in Top 14, Ibanez who most certainly is going places but need several more players to get a squad that can REALLY compete................he has to be the first of a number of recruits over the summer!

They are, as Brucie would say, my favourites (at least while BO are waiting to come up next year!!!)...........

do it, Tony. You know you want to...don't you miss being part of the Top 14 clubhouse.....it's easy, and quick...just go to your account, click on the little pencil icon...go to profile....and under Clubs, you should find a down arrow and.....you'll see, it's so wonderful over on this side...just a couple of clicks away buddy, and you're there......

How can I do that when, despite Budda's best efforts, the club and the team would appear to be pulling in the correct direction and we could be whipping Toulon's backsides within months.......OK maybe got that last bit wrong then!!!

I am a Biarrot by naturalisation and inclination..............................Allez Les Biarrots!!!!!

The English clubs (half of them anyway) and Japanese companies are just as rich as the French clubs, probably quite a bit richer in some cases, the difference is that in England we have a salary cap and a (relatively) strong relationship between club/country and in Japan they are very, very picky about which players they want and they like to maintain a majority of Japanese players.
So in England we can't have any more than one or two big names per club, and in Japan they don't want any more than 1 or 2 per team.

I can't see any English clubs really going after him though.

I would agree with that and it is not just about money......he has been in and out of the game for quite a while and his recent short lived return as not encouraging although a lot could be down to "ring rust"!

However, I am a great believer in that it is very hard if not imposible to get back to where you were before a serious injury that results in a long lay off whether it is because of a loss of pace, a mental hesitancy due to the injury, age etc.!

There have to be better bets out there for the money that he is likely to command for all NH leagues but there is always some fool and his money soon parted!!

I wouldn't call a fool someone signing DC! He's getting older, he has some rust on his shoulders and he went through some painful injuries, but he is a great professional man, he takes care of himself really well and he always worked in great environments!
Take Wilkinson as an example.. After 3 horrible years he went to Toulon and found a new life, showing that class doesn't have age..
At 33 DC can still be a world class signing! Maybe 1M £ is too much but still..

Michalak solicited by Japanese club, would want signature before end of December.

Would be hilarious if Genia didn't go to Bath after all the harping on about it over the past, like, year or more.

Declan Kidney ---> London Irish as DoR

Kidney deal rumoured over these parts to be all but signed off. And rumours that a certain Denis Leamy may be part of coaching ticket. He's doing well here lately in local AIL and Munster Junior leagues.

Mike Williams (Wuss was of Natal Sharks and blue Bulls) ----> Leicester

We also had a aussie born America player in the "A" team tonight Greg Peterson (23) Lock played for the North Harbour Rays in the NRC.

Our Scouts are certainly looking around.

Best place for him now!!!

haha

And this Dan Carter thing is a bit ridiculous. He apparently would want a minimum of 1.8 mil € to play in France, and although Lorenzetti claims his club Racing is just one of many soliciting DC's services they seem to have some ascendency in that race.
Boudjellal says anyone who gets Carter will de facto have to exceed the salary cap limit, no way to get him without doing that.

Money and economy and what not isn't my business (pun unintended) but all I can say is overlooking the attraction he would be playing in France, I just think from a Rugby fan's pov it's just not worth it at all. What I've seen from him lately has not been superior to what I've seen from Trinh-Duc for e.g., but yet Trinh-Duc doesn't have a mystique surrounding him and won't get remotely close to 2mil.
But presidents don't know their stuff like fans and only care about the moves they're making economy-wise and they must've weighed in the right factors and know things we don't. We'll see.

tbf, with Dan Carter, you don't just get a player, you get someone that can draw crowds and maybe even create long-term fans. I suspect whoever signs him will have slightly higher attendances when Carter makes his first starts. Should draw back a tiny bit of the money they spend on him.

Still an outrageous amount to be spending that almost certainly isn't worth it.

Well unfortunatly, getting at RM92 Carter will bring so many fans & merchandising that paying him 2M€ is just nothing ! I remember when Cristiano Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Mardrid for 91M€, the Real said his transfert would be almost paid with only the shirt sells ... At 75€ a shirt X 1 M = 75 M€ ... So, maybe it will be even more with Carter as Rugby players are cheap compared to football ones ! And a Rugby shirt is 50€. But they won't sell 1 M I agree ...

Ashley-Cooper may not be signing alone for UBB, talking were opened for Kepu too.

But rugby jerseys don't have the names on the back like football ones do. :p

I mean, I'm sure they will still sell RM "10 Carter" shirts in stores, I'm just not sure how many rugby fans will break from the tradition of no names on jerseys. Double up with rugby clubs have local, not global fanbases and don't even have the means to sell their kits globally, and I'm not sure they'll sell too many jerseys.

But yeah, I do think they'll at least some of their money back. I think the main issue isn't actually the money (which is pretty inconsequential for a rich owner), but as Ewis said, the fact it eats up so much of the cap.

I think it's very similar to Wilkinson at the end of his career at Toulon, still good (very good on occasion) but his worth was probably more off the pitch with advertising and exposure globally.

But in RM they have their name on their butt, how many fans will buy a short with Carter on their ass?:lol:
