Transfers rumours

Ma'a Nonu. Verified this time. It should happen, he's coming next year. Boudjellal apparently warned him "Toulon isn't a retirement home".

If it's verified then post the official press release in the 14/15 transfers thread...

It never rains but it pours!

...Let's hope, for Northampton's sake, that their academy has some decent players coming through!

Haha, good luck with that!
Nonu is one of most notorious for only turning up for internationals.
He'll be on massive money, living on the coast in the south of France with a load of SH mates. I can see him winding down massively.

Malinder's kid looks decent. He's a 10/12 right?

Also they'll miss Manoa but they do have some good, young fringe back rows as well.

Hartley will be a big hole to fill if h goes.

They definitely have good players: Stevenson, Haywood, Dickinson and a load of academy lads.
I guess the amount of gametime those guys get might be indicative of who's going.

Any news about people they might be bringing in ? George Pisi has been a massive part of their success in the last couple of years, any 13's becoming available ? As that Stephenson looked like a 13 but I guess you could move burrell over to try and meet his England ambitions

So, uhm, talk about Hartley taking up a 3 year contract at Montpellier.

OK. Hartley will be takin up a 3 year contract in Montpellier, which seems an interesting deal...the team is rich in talent, but not loaded like those other Top 14 powerhouses. Furthermore, I'd like to focus on ...

Charlie Faumuina to Racing.

Toulon's David Smith to....Pau ?

WP centre/wing Pat Howard to Munster on a 3 month loan deal. Hope he gets some time. A very capable youngsters held back by the depth we've had in those positions these last 2 years;

JdV
JdJ
Damian de Allende all Bok centers

Aplon
Habana
Taute all Bok outside backs and then
Kobus van Wyk
Cheslin Kolbe
Seabelo Senatla are just a set of very dangerous out-and-out outside backs

Wouldn't be surprised to see Howard not form part of our Super rugby campaign although I see him in our midfield plans post JdV/JdJ after 2015.

yeah it's possible. In which case they'll just stop playing him and get rid of him whenever they can and play their other 3 top quality centers...but we haven't seen this in Toulon yet, the guys there usually find the fountain of youth and a hunger to compete at the highest level. There's definitely something about Toulon that brings the best out of their guys. Racing has loads of money but it hasn't always helped its players transcend. And it's not just the mere fact Toulon as an organization and staff keep the conditioning and expectations for their players at the highest, there's a true willingness and integrity from the players' part. They seem to have mastered the human element there and created this genuinely healthy and positive atmosphere.
Faced up with all that, I don't think Nonu as a pro player will drop his arms the entire season. Maybe he's got that mindset right now, like he's just going to retire there, but I'd imagine, just from empirical conclusion over the rest, he'll abide like the others.

I don't think he has the sort of extreme personality needed to be hated wherever you go in town and from your own staff and bosses, a whole season. He'll see from the other guys similar to him, SH/Oceanic guys, the seriousness in their commitment, their words and actions. Nobody's fucckng around in the Var.

Said it on other thread. He will definitely get games and well all going well there's an option for us to extend deal

Hartley for three years to Montpellier screams "I'm gonna go and get some money in France, but I'll be back for the WC if I'm still good enough".

Hmm... or "I'm going to go and get some money after the world cup, and sign a standard contract"?!

I highly doubt it.

He's a good international level player, but we have a couple of guys who could be more than that, and in Luke Cowan Dickie, a guy who (fingers crossed) has every chance of being world class.
