Even he realised he wasn't much cop - not getting ahead of Bosch let alone the England incumbents.
He was a decent club player... that was it.

Yeah that's fair, never thought he was awful though, just not quite worth the hype he had coming over to Union. Although, I'm basing this off the games I saw him in the centre for England, only saw a little of his action for Sarries, and a fair bit of that was LV-Cup when he first started, so not exactly top level stuff.

here we go again - how was he not ahead of Bosch?
Bosch only joined Saracens in october, Tomkins joined up with England as he arrived, then got injured - Tomkins has only made like two appearances since then due to injury...
So i really don't see how Bosch has "kept him out of the shirt".
Knew he wasn't making the RWC squad so ran off.

The guy has clearly realised he's not going to be anywhere near an England shirt so has gone back to the sport he is more comfortable with.

Don't think there is any doubt about that... I just don't agree he was being kept out by Bosch, they only overlapped by a few weeks.

Not how I read it.
I read it as:
He's sitting there, looking at how well Bosch is going, how well Burrell/Tuilagi play, knowing he's going to struggles massively to get ahead of any of them, so has tucked his tail firmly between his legs and done one.

Tompkins probably behind Trinder aswell I expect . May aswell give the third choice shirt to someone young i suppose . There's a new "talented" Tomkins coming through the sarries academy anyway . He looks pretty tasty at u20s level

Haven't been that impressed by trinder, i think he's been way over hyped by some. He's sort of like a faster version of frasers or sorell to me.
