Transfers 2014/15

Allegedly Glaws spent no time training under the new scrummaging laws before the start of the season.

That is absolutely insane.
I know they've gotten rid of their old scrum coach now, but how did no one question the sanity of Nigel Davies for allowing that?!

Well they weren't exactly south Africa to begin with so how the hell did they think that with new laws you haven't used was going to work

Nah, Wood's a loosehead - they really do need to look at signing a better one, though. His form has dropped wwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyy off this year (new engagement rules perhaps?).
Cheers for that but they need a loosehead to get the most out of Hibbard and Afoa

I reckon Lokotui is going - when did he last play?

I think Savage is seen as a back rower preferably.

If I could answer that, I could answer all things.

Certainly something went wrong there. Harden's toured with England, Knight was developing a tidy reputation last year, Nick Wood has been one of the more bizarre non-caps for England in our livetimes... and all of a sudden it's gone massively to shat.

I am willing to believe that with a new coach, more time to adapt and some good buddies Nick Wood can shine again. That certainly seems to be Glaws logic.

Wiehan Herbst -> Ulster - confirmed by Sharks

(apologise for the double post, but entirely different subjects)

Great signing, shame he is off, but he will serve Ulster well.
Keegan Daniel is off to Kubota.

No way is that true.

I can't see Gloucester getting in more players unless some more are going?

At FH they have ales Thomas, billy burns and jonny beantley.

At out side centre they have trinder, isaacs, jonny may, Shane Monahan and JSD.

Loose head they have wood, murphy & tanning Thomas.

Where do they have space for more signings?
Two left to be announced as far as I know. A hooker and a 7 I'm guessing.

If they don't sign another 10 then they're crazy. BB has bags of potential, but is very very young, and Aled/Bentley are good cover but the only real starting quality 10 (if, as walkinshaw claims, they're destined for the top 4) is Laidlaw - who doesn't want to play 10.
Fly-half is well-stocked in the sense that there is a lot of cover: Aled Thomas, Twelvetrees, Laidlaw, Robson, Atkinson and Billy Burns.

I know there's a lot of cover there, but where's the top 4 standard starter?
If Davies sticks Laidlaw at 10 every week it's not gonna be long until he's regretting his move.

Davies has said that Laidlaw is basically coming as first-choice 10, who can also play 9. My guess is that we'll go with Robson/Laidlaw and Aled Thomas at 21.

Laidlaw-as-a-10 has split Shedweb massively. I don't think it's ideal personally, but then I think Gloucester can work around it since the signings have been good elsewhere. Saints manage without a top 4 fly-half for a start.

I'm not worried about not having a top 4 fly-half as such, it's more the lack of an 80+% goal kicker that worries me. In the past, Laidlaw would have been great for this. Not so much recently.

I thought Davies said he was coming as a 9 who can play not the other way round or I did I get that wrong?

Mark Kohler, Coventry ------>>>>> Plymouth Albion

Todd Clever has also extended his contract with NTT in the Top League.

Sean-Michael Stephen announced that he is retiring from pro rugby at the end of this season after spending the past six season with Plymouth Albion and captaining them for the past few years. Unfortunate, as he was a guy I really rated for Canada and he is one of the few Canadians of his generation that was actually able to hold down a steady professional career as a rugby player overseas, unlike some others who were supposedly more highly rated then he was.

He is going to go the way of Phil Murphy, a good Canadian player who was under-valued and under-appreciated by his national side.

Yeah I'm sad to see SMS go, I would have liked to see him in Canadian colours one last time, I always thought he was a little unceremoniously dumped after the 2010 debacle in Tblisi which wasn't really his fault at all. I had wondered whether he might stick around till the end of one more year to try his chances for 2015 RWC, but with the return of O'Toole he would have been quite far down the depth chart. Congrats to him for a solid professional career, and I always thought he held his own for the national side even if he wasnt standout spectacular.
